Excerpt: This is so much better than the split-circle focusing I used back in the day with my manual-focus film camera. With this, you can focus anywhere in the screen. So, I can constantly be adjusting my composition and focus at the same time, instead of going back to the center (or other) focus point as the subject moves and then recomposing. In many situations, this is actually faster than the camera can pull off, even though manual focus.
Pros: Ease of Focus, Easy To Use, Improves Performance
Excerpt: This focusing screen is a huge improvement over the stock Pentax screen. I have installed it in the Pentax K7 and couldn't be happier. My version is the pre-cut ee-s screen provided by focusingscreens.com. This focusing screen, as many have mentioned, provides more noticeable out of focus blur which let's the user see more clearly where the actual focus point is. Its such a pleasure to focus with. Certainly a huge and noticeable improvement over the stock screen.
Excerpt: Took me a while to get one from focusingscreen.com as it kept getting sold out. I replaced the original metal shim with the plastic one that came with the 3rd party screen and focus is bang on. Highly recommended!
Pros: Doesn't affect metering like the split screen one.
Excerpt: I bought mine custom-made from Focusingscreen in Taiwan, instead of trying to cut/destroy it myself from a full size screen. The indicated price include postage and customs fee/VAT at the Swedish border. Getting it with Pentax AF markings also made it a bit more expensive, but I like the markings and wouldn't want to be without them.
Pros: Brings new life to fast lenses
Cons: Slightly duller WF image with not-so-fast lenses
Excerpt: If you own any fast lens, you surely know that most screens cannot render DoF below f/2... Try the DoF preview at f/2 (thus switching between f/1.4 and f/2), and you'll notice that nothing changes in the viewfinder, be it DoF or brightness...
Pros: Render DoF accurately with fast lenses, has a near linear response to stop-down metering.
Excerpt: Changing the screen out wasn't difficult, just read the instructions carefully. I was expecting a larger improvement, but the modest gain was welcome. It works very well with my 85/1.8 and 70-200/2.8. The 24-105/4 is distinctly darker, but still usable with this screen. It is tough to use the LensBaby at lower settings (f/5.6 and f/8) because the screen is so dark.
Pros: Durable, Easy To Use, Improves Function, Lightweight, Reliable
Excerpt: Very easy to install and it makes it so much clearer where the focus is. Also gives a better idea about the DOF. It even works fine with my f/4 lens. I doubt I will ever swap in the standard again.
