Summary: I will be the first to admit that I am not a pro at recording anything. However, I have had nothing but problems with this recorder. I am a music teacher and a professional singer who uses this unit to record concerts. I just can't seem to get the gain set correctly. There is a switch on the side that has 3 settings: low, high, and auto.
Summary: It's been a few months now that I've been using the Q3HD and to be quite honest I don't like using it. Granted that my Guitar instructor gave it to me so I can film him while playing. It's not worth using. The battery life sucks and only good for an hour or 2 of recording. There are also some syncing issues after uploading raw files straight to youtube.
Summary: I've had a Zoom Q3HD for a year and a half. I am an ex-professional drummer, and it was my intention to record my acoustic drums with the internal mikes, and my Roland TD-20 electronic drums by going direct from my TD-20 to the Q3HD. This unit does not work with external mikes or plugging in direct, and I contacted the American distributor three times, and I got no response. That is inexcusable.
Good audio quality, below-average video, useless battery life
24 December 2011
Summary: I guess they think having decent audio means you can make people overlook the terrible video quality. And to be honest I would've overlooked it if the batteries lasted more than 20 minutes before needing to be replaced. Poorly put together, cheap construction, and I went through a handful of new batteries while playing with it for an hour-and-a-half.
Summary: HD?????? Don't be fooled... the Zoom Q3HD is just a toy. (my cell phone has better video quality!) I do a lot of recording for an American made guitar manufacture. So I was looking for an extra angle as well as great sound recording w/out breaking the bank. The audio is good... sound is crystal clear & almost has a stereo surround/3D effect but lacks the manual control of the gain. The video, not so much... truth is the quality of the HD video is terrible!
Summary: PROS The audio is impeccable. Different options for file format. Handles really really loud bands perfectly. It has an option to record audio only which is cool. CONS The video plain sucks. You get two options really: Dark or crappy. I don't honestly see a difference between it and the first Q3. The videos are often out of sync. The color of the videos are sickly dull, pale and yellowish and look like a crappy cell phone video when in night mode.
not ready yet. Will have to do if if AUDIO is your priority
18 September 2010
Summary: well, audio is your priority, this might fit the bill. If ZOOM could provide 720p video at 60frames for this puppy, it'd the best thing a student or parent could have, hands down, especially with AA battery config and SD card, I'd be sold on the spot. I found out that most guitar students carry these now. What's the point? Video is horrible quality VGA at 30fps. You can't see much, it's blurry, horrible color separation.
