Summary: I bought this camera originally for my wife's business. She wanted to start filming short YouTube videos for her profession. We've also used to for all manner of personal videos from family time in the back yard to my daughter's high school volleyball games. Now I'm no professional. The only experience I've had with video cameras has been with stuff you can get from Best Buy. Moving up to this camera puts you in another league. This camera takes amazing video.
Summary: Perfect DSLR companion When we first get into the DSLR craze we are amazed at the video quality out of the box. But then we run into the battery life issue. Then we realize the sound is subpar. Here is a camera that has top rated battery life and quite possibly the best microphone on the market that will work with your DSLR lenses. If you use a $40 Fotodiox adapter you will be able to control iris manually from the adapter.
Summary: Excellent - as advertised! Item was new, performs as expected. Battery life is not as long as i had hoped, but i bought extended life replacements. Also bought additional SD cards for added storage. Beware of buying batteries and storage from China. I learned the hard way.
Summary: Had this camera a few days and so far I'm in love. I have a Nikon 18 - 55mm lens on it at the moment and it takes higher quality stills than my actual Nikon camera. Not to mention the HD video doesn't have the 12 minute cap. This camera performs great in ever situation I've put it in so far. I love it.
Great camera for those who know what they are getting.

Summary: The important thing to realize with a camera like this is what you are buying. This is a camera that nicely straddles high level consumer handy cams and entry level pro work. If you were ever shooting video on a DSLR and thought of how cool it would be to have that sensor in a video camera, that is the idea here.
Summary: Have been using this camera since March of 2012. This is a great camera and is capable of meeting all my needs but does have some limitations. The reason I selected this camera was to find a good camera for film and photo and this camera does them both great. Sony has the NEX-5n which will do everything this camera can do except only film for 27 min before overheating, also 1/3 the cost (cheap lens too) I tend to film lots of short films and events, at times I have...
Summary: Even though the camcorder has APS-C Sensor, it does not allow to take video and photos simultenously. You have to play the captured video, then pause it and then take photo which has resolution of only 3 Mega pixels. I like my HDR-XR550V better, because it allows me to take photos of high resolutions (8.3 mega pixels) while shooting videos. Also HDR-XR550V has bult-in 240GB hard drive, while NEX-VG20 has none.
Summary: I ordered this because it was barely more than the cost of the camera by itself, and it was coming with a few handy items. Two batteries, that's worth a bit, and a 32GB card, I can go all day with that. Plus the mics, they aren't worth much, but I could use some extras. I presume if you're considering this, you've already researched the camera. It's not bad.
