How Sony Does a Pocket Cam

Gear Patrol
18 September 2010
  • Excerpt: Besides winning the “most appalling product name of the month” award, the Sony Bloggie Touch ($179-$199) does pack an impressive bit of hardware for a pocket camcorder. A 3″ touchscreen, 4GB or 8GB of memory, Exmor CMOS sensor, 1080p video, 12.7 megapixel still image capture, and a fast f2.8 lens give the Bloggie some legit muscle to flex in the pocket cam playground (where its name will inevitably be mocked).

Digital Camera Review
13 April 2010
  • Summary: Before considering a pocket HD camcorder, understand what these devices are not: they are not full-blown HD camcorder substitutes. Instead, for about $100 to $250, pocket camcorders are quick-and-easy pocket-sized gadgets for shooting near HD-quality video. As evident by the market-leading Flip’s success, consumers don’t seem to mind the bare-bones nature of the devices or their sometimes silly names.
  • Pros: Nice video in good light, 5x optical zoom, Easy operation
  • Cons: Slightly bulky, No external mic jack, Larger than pocket size

  • Summary: This is Sony ’s entry into the Small and light Camcorder market. I have reviewed a number of units in this and so far my choice has been the offerings from Flip. Here Sony adds a couple of extras still images and 360 degree images or videos.
