Built-in video light for what?

Palko, B&H Photo
  • Excerpt: I wonder who designed the built-in light in this camera? For sure someone who never shot an event in his life. I'd say 80-90% of the times we need light is Indoors, right? So why the light is set at 5600 Kelvin? Indoor lights are usually are at 3200 Kelvin. Now I have to find a way to put a yellow filter in front of the light. At least Sony should have made a clip-on plastic frame with a yellow filter. The other issue with the light that we can't decrease it's output.

Very nice camera

ferf, B&H Photo
24 November 2014
  • Excerpt: This is my first HD camera, it replaces my DSR250 workhorse and my VX2100 backup, I do talent shows and was concerned about low light after reading about low light noise being bad, but its just a little more then the VX2100, it's acceptable to me, love the dual SD card slots, I'm using 2 64g cards, love the auto focus.Just a couple of things Sony could have done better, I wish it was easier to zero the time code, wish I could remove the wifi icon from the screen,...

Nice for the money

jmcu1, Adorama
3 October 2014
  • Excerpt: This is a nice camcorder for the money. It has a good 20X zoom, takes nice pictures and has great features. It does not do to well in low light as all 1/3 sensor cams don't. If your subject has a lot of back lighting it does wellThe batteries last a long time and the recording media is a lot cheaper than SxS cards. But does not record at the bit rate others do.
  • Pros: 60p Recording, Great battery life, Great picture, Sd Card Media
  • Cons: no shoulder strap, not so great in low light, No Xlr Mic Included

Great Upgrade

Tulsa_TD, B&H Photo
15 September 2014
  • Excerpt: This is a replacement for an ailing AX2000, and has been a joy to use. Pretty much identical form factor, aside from a few small differences (secondary accessory shoe, upgraded 16: 9 LCD, on-body LED array, etc). Anything I could shoot with my AX2000 I can shoot better here - no complaints. The many different recording options (you can record different formats to different cards, record to both cards simultaneously, etc) are INSPIRED.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Good Image Stabilization, Good in Low Light, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD

Good but previous gen. sensor better

foothill 7 tv, B&H Photo
2 September 2014
  • Excerpt: Shooting COPS style reality tv show with these. Has many great features: the added shoe is nice, 60p is nice, shoots beautiful looking footage with the three chip sensor, screen is better over previous generation, all the ease and functionality/customizability that comes with a handycam. Decent audio preamps. On screen displays that show all your settings even in auto is nice. The rings are nice and smooth.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Good Image Stabilization, Great Picture Quality, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD, Zoom range/performance
  • Cons: Poor In Low Light

Little Work Horse!

MJS, B&H Photo
29 August 2014
  • Excerpt: I use this camera mainly for on-site interviews and meetings. Good overall performance. Easy setup and very lightweight. Things that I don't like, the toggle zoom can't be adjusted like the Canon XH-A1.You have to use the toggle on the handle; then go into menu to adjust speed. The video compression is not too bad, recommend recording 1080p on "PS" setting for 28 MPs recording.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Good in Low Light, Great Picture Quality, Zoom range/performance
