Summary: We've been working with the Z1Us for years, mainly around saltwater, filming Inside Sportfishing. They have been bullet proof. Switched to a couple of new digital cameras a couple years ago, but have returned to these cameras because of better quality images. Couldn't find any new Z1s for sale, so bought a couple of used ones. Out of the box it didn't work. We called ZoomPoint and they immediately fixed the initial problem.
Summary: I have filmed and edited with this camera for 3 years and it is still the top of the line and current professional standard for HDV cameras. Its professional XLR sound capabilities set it apart from all the other camera in its price range. The versatile aspect ratios and shooting abilities in any condition make this camera a must have for any professional and amateur indie filmmaker.
Summary: This was a MAJOR investment, involving ALL members of our production company (Not Me Productions). I decided to purchase the Sony HVR-Z1U camera based on it’s use in the TV arena, recommendation by a MAJOR studio representative and the NUMEROUS positive reviews it has received to date. Also, the deal offered by '4rrest' was GREAT! A fair price with extras thrown in. This camera has performed superbly! It is EVERYTHING the critics said and more!
Summary: I've been using this camera for about 6 months and after shooting several projects with it, have found this camera to be the absolute BEST HDV camera on the market. There is no other camera that can give you the quality of HDV video and the look of film as tha Z1U. I've "test driven" all of the HDV cameras available today and none hold a candle to the Z1U.
Summary: I've chosen this camera for my short film after viewing some rough footage at a local studio. The colors that this camera can capture in DV mode are jaw-dropping! It comes with all of the manual controls you could hope for and they're very intuitive. I highly recommend this to independent filmmakers if you're able to rent them in your area.
Summary: I've been using the HVR-Z1U for several weeks now and feel very satisfied with it. I have begun to discover how I best like to use the camera and the camera, in turn, can be programmed to accomodate this with personalized menus, scene files, and optional components. It produces great images with relative ease and the transition from DV to HDV is friendlier than one might expect. The ONE item I'm still addressing is the lack of covers for the XLR inputs...
