Summary: We have been using this camcorder for a few years now! It was far more expensive when we bought it but it has done us so well over the years. It is a solid bit of kit and we subtracted a star because we need to move on from minidv tapes. We will be upgrading soon but check out what it is capable of on our YouTube channel: ymediaperth It will be easy to tell which films are done with the z1 and which aren't.
Summary: The BBC owned many of these professional camcorders for TV news broadcasts ENG= Elec News Gathering (3 CCD = TV broadcast quality). The BBC probably now use the newer model - Sony Z 5 (£4,500) because it also records in 1080i which the BBC prefer instead of 1080 p. I do not know why the Beeb prefer interlaced. Anyhoo, teh BBC also welcome the broadcast quality Canon Xf 305 (£5,500). The previous review sums up this brilliant Sony hvr Z1 camcorder extremely well.
Summary: Great workhorse for all kinds of semi-pro and pro productions. Great control available, excellent image quality, conversion lenses are well worth the expense to extend the range of the standard lens. If you want to go pro and you're on a budget... it's tough to beat. This is an edit of earlier review (date 20/06/09). Still like the camera. However, for serious pro work... you now need to be looking towards proper HD. Technology moves on I'm afraid.
