This is a great HD camera

  • Summary: I use for corporate video, weddings and music video, special events. The video out of this camera is Fantastic! I love it's small size which makes it easier to shoot hand held. The mic that comes with the unit is not up to par. I would replace with better one.
  • Pros: Comfortable to Operate, Durable, Great Features, Great Picture Quality, Versatile
  • Cons: Poor Sound

Shotgun mics are suppose to be better?

StevieJ, B&H Photo
13 January 2009
  • Summary: I have recorded a little over ten hours on my V1U and have used it for skate filming, event shooting and nature shooting. It is a really durable camera and has a good video quality. The main problem is the audio quality is horrible. I have to max it to ten with 48+ just to hear somebody six feet in front of it. I have not tried other mics yet but from all the google searches I found on the problem better mics did not help.
  • Pros: Comfortable to Operate, Durable, Great Picture Quality, Simple Controls
  • Cons: Poor Sound

Wonderful Camera for on the go

  • Summary: I'm use to work with full size broadcast cameras, but after using this camera, I feel this will become my main camera for day time shoots or with events with good lighting. A lot of times were limted to space and just plain obstructive for us to have such a large camera. Moving on to the main review: PRO: Small, many connection options on camera, natural colors for HDV, 60-24p, 20x lens, manual controls, custom assigment on buttons, the ability to shoot full auto and...
  • Pros: Comfortable to Operate, Great Picture Quality, Simple Controls, Versatile
  • Cons: Poor low-light video, Poor Power Connector

I am definitely getting a second one!!!

13 August 2008
  • Summary: This camera does extremely beautiful pictures in DVCAM mode (almost comparable to Betacam). In HDV it is even better. One could say picture is breathtaking. Camera picks up the smallest detail. Colour is astounding. I have decided to purchase another so I can match cameras easily on 2 camera shoots. One set back is the extreme noise in the camera under low light. I have fixed that problem by lighting my subjects properly and lowering the gain.

Excellent Camera for the price

  • Summary: I bought this camera to produce some TV commercials and to create some documentary style projects. All in all, I'm very impressed with the image quality that is achievable with this camera- provided there is enough light available. The focus assist button comes in handy. This is especially so if you're tracking subjects that move quickly, such as birds flying between branches of a tree.
  • Pros: Great Features, Great Picture Quality, Versatile
  • Cons: Uncomfortable
