Summary: I love a lot of the features on this camcorder, however it doesn't do that well in low light unless you have proper lighting. I was needing a little more quality in the video but at 6.1 megapixles you can't really expect miracles.
Summary: I used this camera to shoot a high school football game yesterday, and I wasn't pleased. The touch screen controls are extremely unusable and uncomfortable. I love the feel of the Canon XL1 and XL2 because all of the options are on the exterior. Nice try, Sony. I'll be using a Canon from now on though.
Summary: This is a great camera depending on your needs. No it's not a professional camera but if you use it for events, weddings, documentries, parties and the same you can't go wrong. As for as price you can't beat the price for it's range. The controls are easy to access and work. If you don't have any video camera exsperience then it may seem a little intimidating and you might try a smaller camera instead.
Pros: Easy to Use, Good Image Stabilization, Good in Low Light, Great Picture Quality, Great Sound, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD, Zoom range/performance
Summary: I recently purchased this camcorder and am really glad I did. I bought the camcorder after reading the great reviews featured on HD Camera Guide. I LOVE the shoulder mount (made so much of a difference) and the picture quality is amazing! Although no XLR inputs can be kind of frustrating.
Summary: Really, I just bought this package for the hvr-hd1000u because it was one of the better deals on the web with some accessories thrown into the mix as well. The camera itself is a very sturdy, clear camera that records in glorious HD. Also, some of the accessories are pretty good for a cheap compilation. However, I can't say the same for some of the other accessories like the video light, which is so dim it doesn't really help in any situation.
Summary: Picture quality has been well above expectations. Most of the people I work with can not believe the image quality for a single chip camera. It does struggle in super-low light, but I used the camera this past football season both on the sidelines and as a main cam position up top and it was amazing. Coming for a broadcasting background, I am throughly impressed. Would like built in xlr connections, having to use an adapter( DXA-2S) is OK, but could be better.
Pros: Comfortable to Operate, Durable, Great Picture Quality, Simple Controls, Versatile
