Summary: So I use this for mounting in a Class 8 (semi) rig and have been for nearly 5 years, and I use a Fat Gecko Camera and Camcorder Mount so I can have it as close to the front windshield as possible. The mount makes it so there is virtually no shaking, even when going over bumps. I have used the hard drive in the past, but the shaking and "bumps" causes the recording to shut down abruptly, and when it does, the screen will say "buffer overrun" or something to that effect.
excellent camcorder, very nice and high quality recording.

Summary: Great little camera. I am a pro videographer and use this camera as a "second" camera for candid side, back, close shots. I love how easy is is to transfer the video into the computer using the Sony software. My only disappointments: 1) There is no LAN jack so I can't use the tripod handle controls, 2) To adjust white balance while shooting, you have to go into the the menu screen and click through to that control . . .
Summary: Although slightly older model, I decided on the SR-12 for the 10MP still camera feature in this particular model. Also, unlike newer models that are based on Memory Stick only, the 120GB hard drive can last a MUCH longer time! The pictures are crisp and I have already got one blown up to poster size with great details! Video recording quality is good - with excellent zoom. Love the touch screen LDC to zip through various options and reordings etc.
Would you ship a thousand dollar camcorder like a five dollar book?!!

Summary: The camera is a great product, no doubt about it~ There are plenty of reviews on that issue. But let's talk about the intelligence and customer care behind shipping an expensive, hard disk drive based camcorder in a box with zero protection. That's right, not one ounce or penny spent on preventing damage to a piece of delicate electronics that is shipped from across the country, in the middle of the winter!
Great camera but need lots of CPU power to edit video

Summary: I moved from a Sony Hi-8 camera that we had for 5 years prior to this, and the first word out of my mouth was "Wow!" The tape-based camera was great for an NTSC camera. The video and audio quality were great for home movies and the occasional training videos that I used it for at work. Aside from the fact that it was a standard def picture, the biggest complaint was for the need for tapes. Needless to say, that old camera is now gathering dust.
Summary: Using this to records kids events, etc. Works fantastic most of the time. Camera does have some trouble at sporting events at dusk/early evening. Seems to have trouble focusing during these times. Awesome picture, features, etc. The software bundled does a pretty good job of importing videos. That is about all it can do. I am struggling to find real editing software for AVCHD. Thinking of just going with SONY Vegas based on comments from friends and coworkers.
Summary: Great little HD cam. Easy to learn and use. Crisp, clear HD shots and no more worrying about tapes. I only wish Sony would have kept the IEEE 1394/firewire port, instead of going with USB only.
