Sony HDR-SR11

The Sony HDR-SR11 is a 60 GB high definition Handycam Camcorder that allows you to shoot video and still photographs like a pro.

Features

The Sony HDR-SR11 incorporates Face Detection technology, made possible by the ClearVid CMOS sensor (with Exmor technology) and BIONZ image processor, that is capable of recognizing up to 8 faces anywhere in the frame and automatically controls focus, exposure and colour to help capture smiling faces brightly and clearly. Besides that, face detection also helps make skin tones look natural without affecting other colours in the image. Not only that, the Sony HDR-SR11 also features 1920 x 1080 recording for stunning, incredibly detailed video footage in the clarity of full HD resolution. The 5 mega pixel ClearVid CMOS sensor that is incorporated delivers right, vivid and spectacularly detailed 5 mega pixel video footage, as well as 10.2 mega pixel still images while Exmor technology captures images with high resolution and high sensitivity. In addition to that, the advanced Sony BIONZ image processor also utilizes hardware-based large scale integrated (LSI) circuitry that improves camera response time, screens out noise before RAW data conversion, handles Dynamic Range Optimization processing and prolongs battery life. Besides that, hybrid recording technology incorporated that delivers a new level of flexibility for transferring your video footage and digital photos from the camcorder to compatible viewing devices. There is also the option to record to the camcorder’s internal hard disk drive, or to removable Memory Stick Duo media or memory Stick PRO Duo media. Videos and still images can also be copied from the hard disk drive to Memory Stick media using the various dubbing functions to copy and paste, without using a PC. Images recorded or transferred to Memory Stick media can then be played directly on a Sony Playstation3 or PC to share your memories with friends and family. Not only that, there is also built-in intelligent flash for added clarity and detail when taking pictures in low-light situation, as well as improve pictures and reduce shadows. The Sony HDR-SR11 runs on Sony InfoLITHIUM battery that incorporates the Stamina Battery Power management system that helps the camcorder prolong battery life for extra long continuous recording times from a single charge. Also, battery information can be display on the LCD screen when charging and even when the camcorder is turned off with a touch of a button.

I have purchased both camcorders (I admit via BestBuy since returns are a breeze) to compare quality for about a week, and I must say Sony wins hands down. I was actually hoping the Canon will be the winner since I own the Canon 40D dSLR and wanted to stay within brand, but I've made my choice and purchased the SR11 from Amazon. For the record, I was using iMac 3.06GHz intel proc with iMovie/QuickTimePro - none of the cameras offer any software for the Mac, but that did... Read more

I use the camera primarily for home movies. I took it out to the desert on a recent trip. Captured some fantastic video of off-road vehicles in the dunes with very little problems with the high contrast (bright sun/almost white surface) found there. Also got some great shots of the sunset. The camera mode was very impressive as well- it took some great pictures even in low light around a campfire. Read more

Making the decision to purchase a high-definition camcorder today can be very difficult considering the great number of choice to we consumers today. I had narrowed my search to three manufacturers, Canon, JVC and Sony, mainly because I had prior camcorder experience with all three. Preparing to part with $1,000 on a want and not a need is very difficult. Even at the store I found it difficult making a final decision after extensive research. I settled on the Sony... Read more

This is my 3rd digital camcorder. This camcorder is not meant in any way for Semi-pro or pro users. Having said that this is great cam for personal / home / vacation use. One of the cons is that lots of controls are available only through touch screen, which is not very comfortable. Also if you have to quickly switch between different modes, it could be a daunting task. The other thing which I didn't like was that battery pack supplied is good only for 40Mins of HD... Read more
