There is no doubt that the Sony HDR-HC3 is going to be one of the most popular offerings of the year. After last years HC1 was a huge hit, consumers are expecting the HC3 to be even better. The most difficult task for Sony is following up such a great model. The HC1 was the first HD camcorder to be offered to the general public for less than $2,000. This low price point alone was enough to draw in thousands of customers before it even hit store shelves.

Although the Sony HDR-HC3 is a great camcorder, they did not do themselves any favors by sticking with the less is more strategy. The fact of the matter is that people want more from their camcorders, and this is something that Sony just does not believe in. But with that being said, there are plenty of top of the line features offered on the newest HDR-HC3.

First and foremost, the HDR-HC3 shares the same chip with their top of the line DCR-DVD505. This ensures you are not only going to get great performance as far as color is concerned, but that the resolution is also going to be top of the line. The noise on the new HDR-HC3 is slightly more than that of last years HC1, but all in all this is nothing that should turn the consumer off too much.

One of the biggest benefits of the HDR-HC3 is that it is easy to handle and control; even in the most difficult of situations. The main reason for this is a smaller body size, as well as some of last year’s features being removed.

In conclusion, the Sony HDR-HC3 is definitely one of the better camcorders on the market. Although many think that the HC1 is better, only time will tell how the two of them hold up.
