Summary: As owner of a first generation Flip, I purchased the HDR-GW77V because it was rated best "pocket camcorder." I had considered some "prosumer" camcorders, but found them to be complex, with more controls and options that I would ever use in a lifetime. The HDR-GW77V is simple in its operation and use, while still producing high-quality video. You grip and point the HDR-GW77V just as you would a firearm.
Summary: Finally a video/photo/water proof camera that fits in my pocket. Crisp full HD video with high resolution photos. I take it to the pool, and it takes awsome video and photos both out and under water. Surprisingly light and small. Just a tad thicker than a cell phone.
Summary: This camera is amazing. It is one of the best cameras I have ever owned. I searched for a long time to find a camera with the capabilities that this camera has. This camera is true full high-def! This camera performs like a $10,000 camera. This camera is capable of doing underwater photography, still shots and high-definition video and performing all three of those functions superbly. It is very lightweight and hand-held friendly.
Summary: I've had the GW77 for a week. Despite the few complaints about what the camcorder isn't, I'll tell you what it is. If your looking for something small to take along on trips, as well as at home, I think this it! It's very light, which some may complain its hard to hold steady. That's where the OIS with Active mode comes in. You can actually walk and shoot video and get very good results.
Summary: I've had this camera for a couple of days now. My initial impressions are that the HDR-GW77V may be the best Handycam yet. I have owned multiple generations of Sony cameras, consumer and pro, from VHS to Hi8 to Digital8 to miniDV to HDD, and now microSD flash memory. The form factor of this one is similar to the older miniDV DCR-PC55, but slimmer and lighter. The PC55 was a nice DV pocket cam, but the colors and low light performance were a compromise for the size.
Summary: Pros (select feature I consider important and very handy): - Super light and compact for carrying in pocket when going to the park, pool, etc. - Very short lag between flipping the screen and taking videos - Can change Exposure, White Balance and Scene on the fly even while recording - Extremely sensitive in dark situations - I videotape my children indoors quite often and notice a significant difference between this and the previous version of the same form-factor (from...
