With the HDR-CX7 Sony has introduced a high-quality HD camcorder that records to flash memory—and it’s a winner for all my nitpicking. The overall video quality is outstanding. The camcorder focuses quickly, smoothes out the shakes thanks to OIS and is a lot of fun to operate. If Sony just took care of a few things, the CX7 would be at the top of camcorder heap, circa Summer 2007. Yes, I’d even give up a little resolution of the for the small size, instant index mar... If Sharper Image or SkyMall suddenly decided to sell decent-quality merchandise instead of its normal garbage, the Sony HDR-CX7 would be a front-page feature. And if the brand association wasn’t so detrimental, Sony would probably love that. It’s a compact, easy to use camcorder with a buzzy acronym – AVCHD, ooh la la! – that few people understand. Colors are rich. Images are clear. The interface is very user friendly. This sums it up perfectly. It also has a digital zoom setting, but using this causes the video resolution to suffer. Other than that, this is a perfect camera. The LCD screen is out of this world, very bright and easy to use. The video resolution is emacualte, espcially outdoors in the sunlight. I use camco... Read more
Hi-def recorded resolution is 1440 X 1080 (not 1920 X 1080). Hi-def records in four different bitrates from 5Mbps to 15Mbps. SD records in three bitrates: 3, 6, and 9 Mbps. SD resolution is NOT reduced to half at the lowest bitrate, like some other Sony camcorders do. 3Mbps is 720 X 480, though I think SD is always 520 effective horizontal lines. If you record in HD, you can play it back as SD using the analog cables. One of the cables is component outpu... Read more
