Summary: This is a very good item that I know. Before this time, I have a complete of Nikon N.50 camera kit .When i known about this item, I changed my mind .I bought total 1 item for me and 3 for my family ( included 1 in VietNam ). Every bodies happy with HDR-CX550V Handycam. Great!!!!! I like this item because it is small body but full functions, images very clear with FX mode , even in low light or in dime room. For me, it is best of all.I don't think I will change my mind...
Summary: Because an image worth a thousands words, check out my video I did with the same camera on youtube /watch?v=aa7og434IoM, overall it's a very good camera very solide and have quick response, lots of feature for custom movies, the quality of the image is excellent!
Pros: Excellent automatic white balance - colour is actually better than real life when shooting under incandescent lights. The zoom microphone works well - no need for a shotgun mic to pickup speakers over 50' away.
Cons: PBM software isn't great. It takes a long time to download the images to the computer - would have been better to have USB 3.0 connections. When shooting spinning objects, you have to remember to switch to manual focus mode.
Summary: A lot of the reviews here are great, some more technical than others but all quite informative. I have had this camera about a month now and here are a couple things I'd like to mention as well. Bear in mind these are personal observations, certainly not technical, but directed more at the average user or person who justs want to shoot a good picture or video and not be bothered by a lot of techno-babble. 1.
Summary: Bought this in January 2011 for recording family events, recording visual information for business purposes, and recording severe weather footage. Low light was a significant consideration as was ease of use, HD, sound quality, ease of use and a hot shoe for accessories (like an external mic). The 12megapixel still camera was bonus since I have a Nikon D700 when I need quality still photos.
