Good but lens has visible chromatic aberration at high zoom

Summary: Very good camcorder. Fast, light and of course using FLASH instead of tape is wonderful. My only complaint is Sony having switched away from Carl Zeiss lenses to their own "Lens G" technology. The lens is not as good and shows noticeable chromatic aberration at high zoom. (It's fine at low or no zoom.) This unit is several years old at this point so maybe they've improved things. Do your homework on this issue before going with Lens G.
Summary: I love everything about this camera. The video quality is amazing, even in low light conditions. [...] It's got great slow motion quality, good sound, and I like all of the features. My one concern is the lens cover mechanism is really delicate. On the first day of filming with the camera, the lens cover got jammed open, so now it only closes halfway. I wasn't rough or careless with it, but it is still like that now.
Summary: I got this camcorder on the first day they were available and had some time to use it. Mine use mostly is for kids, vacations, travel, hiking so I needed good quality camcorder that would recorder on the moments notice with out waisting time on setups. The items that sold me on it and did not disappoint: 1. Wide angle - first Sony's camcorder that I would not have to carry this annoying wide angle lens and no loss of quality as well out of microphone range. 2.
Pros: Wide lens. Touchscreen easy to use. Viewfinder nice to have. Image stabilization top notch. Compact size and weight.
Cons: Lens cover mechanism. Image quality when played back on HDTV not as great as expected. Windcutter helped with wind noise reduction. Occasional infamous blue dot problem. Photos- eh. PMB software limitations. Could use lens hood accessory.
Summary: Camera is a good choice for video students--It allows them to start learning video techniques and also allows them some manual overrides to make & study various adjustments to the shooting process. I definitely recommend it for beginning video students. The SD mode renders very nice footage as well.
Summary: Pros: - Image Stabilization - Wide angle lens - Pretty good in low light - Color saturation - Touch screen Cons: - Image not quite as sharp as I would like - Autofocus can be a little slow to react when walking indoors with the camera - You can't set the zoom speed to a constant. It's variable and very sensitive.
Summary: Good camera but it is NOT 30 P. it is 60 I. It is not the same thing. its still interlaced but not as noticible. No manual level control for the audio. Can't take still photos while it's in Highest def. mode. Heres a catch 22: To extend battery life I want to record with the screen closed, and also pause it when I'm not using it, which I need the remote for. ( I have this mounted out of the way to record my band and cannot physically get to it easily durring my gig.
Summary: This has been a very interesting process. I finally decided to get a camcorder after a couple of years of research and a couple of projects working overseas with pros. Those guys were getting amazing results using older consumer cameras- thought I'd get into it. This review will hit on some issues that have been overlooked in other reviews I've seen. Others have reviewed the photographic aspects of these camcorders quite well already.
Summary: For the money this camera is amazing. I work in television and have used this camera for a second or third camera many times now and it is great! In the hands of a producer or someone who doesn't know much about shooting they can give me some creative shots or funky angles and it cuts with the Sony EX-1 really well.
Summary: The Sony CX550V 64GB camcorder has a compact form factor and good build quality. The EVF could be bigger with a rubber eyeguard to shield off ambient light. The LCD does not work well in bright sunlight. However, there are two shortcomings that require a customer workaround. 1. Focused lens flare appears as a blue dot when shooting against a bright sky at the widest zoom. I have posted a workaround on YouTube: [...] 2. The camera does not come with a wind cut feature.
