Summary: This is a great camera for anyone... novice and indie films. Captures excellent images. Wish the lens were a bit more wide angle for interior shots but the light levels can be almost non existent and the images are still very good. I also work with a mac and it interfaces ... no problem. Will look into a 37mm mount wide angle lens to make it perfect.
Summary: I use these cameras along with a digital audio recorder to record children’s performances and some horse competitions. Colors are very consistent between cameras and they work very well in low light stage performances. I use Sony Vegas Pro to edit and PluralEyes to sync camera video and the audio recording.
Summary: Although this is my 2nd HDR-CX500, my first one lasted only 3 years. But I did use the heck out of it. When I inquired to SONY for repairs they were not helpful. This particular camera beats all.....best HD, best sound, ease. Only hoping it will last more than 3 years. Thanks UPBEAT electronics for a great sale!
Summary: Very good camera for family and even hobbyist. Great quality video in a day, outside, inside and very dark room in just auto settings.Easy to operate, lite to hold, sturdy. Everything works good. Sony service is good. U can buy extended warranty later and they will take care of u if something happens. Iwill strongly recommend to buy as a top one camera to have.Buy ONLY SONY video camera!
video is OK but I took vacation videos in HD-SP only to find out they were unreadable in Final Cut Pro and iMovie

Summary: There is no warning from either Sony or Apple, although Apple did not print the manual for the camcorder, that reveals clips taken in Sony's HD-SP 1920x1080p 60i codex is not recognized by the movie apps on a Mac. Several visits to forums and Sony support were frustrating. I was finally directed to Wandershare Video Converter Ultimate which will convert the Sony .MTS files to .MOV Quicktime files readable on by Final Cut Pro and iMovie.
Summary: Excellent camera except for two problems. First, the common problem of the viewing screen being nearly opaque when shooting outside in sunlight (a problem also for small digital still cameras). This also obscures the red "rec" indicator on the screen so that you can become confused as to whether or not you are in the record mode. The second, and for me the more serious problem, is the lack of a wind screen for the built in microphone.
Perfect for low light video shoot; Unfortunately lens is not wide angle

Summary: This is an amazing non-professional camcorder for stunning video shoot. When I played some mountain landscape video that I shot with this cam on a FullHD (1080p) TV to my relatives during a family get-together, they thought it was shot by a professional for Discovery channel or something! Wonderful for low light recording, like inside your home with normal lighting. No more grainy videos. Shake cancellation is useful when shooting from a moving car.
