Summary: Looks like the life of this item is over, does not work any more... Did not used for few months, then we tried to use it after some time and came to know that it is not working any more... god knows why
Summary: This is a great camera for anyone... novice and indie films. Captures excellent images. Wish the lens were a bit more wide angle for interior shots but the light levels can be almost non existent and the images are still very good. I also work with a mac and it interfaces ... no problem.
Summary: I use these cameras along with a digital audio recorder to record children’s performances and some horse competitions. Colors are very consistent between cameras and they work very well in low light stage performances.
Summary: Although this is my 2nd HDR-CX500, my first one lasted only 3 years. But I did use the heck out of it. When I inquired to SONY for repairs they were not helpful. This particular camera beats all.....best HD, best sound, ease. Only hoping it will last more than 3 years.
Summary: Very good camera for family and even hobbyist. Great quality video in a day, outside, inside and very dark room in just auto settings.Easy to operate, lite to hold, sturdy. Everything works good. Sony service is good. U can buy extended warranty later and they will take care of u if something happens.
video is OK but I took vacation videos in HD-SP only to find out they were unreadable in Final Cut Pro and iMovie

Summary: There is no warning from either Sony or Apple, although Apple did not print the manual for the camcorder, that reveals clips taken in Sony's HD-SP 1920x1080p 60i codex is not recognized by the movie apps on a Mac. Several visits to forums and Sony support were frustrating.
Summary: Excellent camera except for two problems. First, the common problem of the viewing screen being nearly opaque when shooting outside in sunlight (a problem also for small digital still cameras).
