Summary: Everything is good about this camcorder except for the 12x zoom and unfortunately that's one of the most important features in a camcorder. This camcorder is fine for birthday parties other indoor events but don't bother recording your child's soccer game or school play because you're not going to be able to zoom in far enough to even see them.
Step in the wrong direction for "Sony" camcoders line.

Summary: Ever since Sony switched from famous Carl Zeiss® lens to own Sony G lens, serious problems started to appear: - Day light videos become significantly darker and less sharp ( clearly visuble on YouTube); - "Blue Dot" artifact as a focused lens flare ( well documented on YouTube); Reason for lens switching was reduction of production costs at the expence of consumers. Who wants to have dark videos with "Blue Dots"? It's a step in the wrong direction, "Sony"!
Summary: The picture quality is great but it's useless because the camera doesn't connect to iMovie on a Mac OS X 10.5. It doesn't connect to Movie Maker on a Windows XP computer either. The only way to get video off is through the proprietary Sony software, which only comes for Windows; there is no version for Macs. Once you've exported the video from the camera into the Sony application, you have to export it out as mpg or wmv file before you can use it in iMovie/Movie Maker.
