Summary: A video clip is worth a thousand words? http://youtu.be/Q-dRMwxI_jA (And now a detailed and verbose review!) So, one day, out of the blue my little sister called me for help because she had won a grant to conduct a field study on the differences between oral and written histories of the indigenous Mexican people living in the remote mountains of the state of Oaxaca during the summer of 2013--you see, I used to be the family's aspiring movie Director--and because the last...
Summary: I love this camera with the exception of two limitations. You cant clear the internal memory contents without using the camera touch screen which is really a painful option to deal with. You need to go through each and every folder and manually delete files once you copy them to your lappy. Sony should have made it simple by letting us move files after connecting to laptop itself. Another drawback is with internal storage.
Summary: Bought this unit as a replacement for an older Sony "lost" in Germany. It is an excellent camcorder, we've shot a lot of video with it over the last few months. Pros: Excellent quality video, the anti-shake works well without being over-powering. Colors are sharp and clear, and the 30x optical is very versatile. The USB cable being in the handle and always attached is a nice feature, I hardly ever have to use the included USB extension when on travel.
Summary: For those of you seeking a low cost high quality camera that you can put a mic jack in, this works great. I bought a cheaper one and didn't realize it didn't have a jack. I give lectures and need to wear a lapel mic and so I wire that to this camera through an XLR cord and adapter for 1/8" jack and it works great.
Summary: We are very pleased with the quality of the videos this handycam took on our vacation. However, 1 week after purchase, the lens cover stopped operating. Since we were traveling for a month, I finally now got in touch with Sony and am sending the handycam back for repair on the lens cover. I'm a bit disappointed that it was not more robust, but if they fix it, we'll be ok.
Summary: Small size, fits into a cargo pocket easily. Well made, handled a drop well. Great video, if you put it one setting lower than max (60i) it can take smile pictures while recording, a neat feature that caputured a lot of moments with the kids and the characters, and just smile moments in general. Footage appears grainy in only the lowest of light situations, but I probably could have fixed that if I changed the setting.. Great zoom and image stabilization.
Summary: As a birdwatcher, I bought this pretty much exclusively to shoot video of birds, so I'll rate it from that point of view. Likes: The 30x optical zoom was the main attraction, and it works well: you can get surprisingly "close" to those little birds that won't let you get within 40 feet. The low-light capability is also impressive. And the built-in USB cable, though short, is handy both for uploading video and stills to a computer and for recharging the battery.
Summary: This camera does everything except takes clear pics and video in low light settings such as indoors with low lighting. Otherwise check out the review about the camera on youtube. The zoom is ridiculous and more than you need. Still happy. Gets 4 stars because of the low light quality.
Summary: The camcorder takes really nice video and is easy to use. My only complaint is that it records video in a .MTS format, which is difficult to work with. I have not been able to figure out proper Handbrake settings to convert the files to MP4 format yet. The Sony software doesn't seem to offer a way to convert the files for this particular model.
Summary: The PROS: Very Good HD quality video for such a light-weight camera. On screen menu is fairly simple to use, zoom controls on screen work smoothly and picture is still fairly sharp when zooming in for tight shots. Camera takes both good video and good stills in minimal lighting. CONS: I prefer a camera that has a view-finder on the back as well as the flip-out screen.
