Summary: I got this camcorder because I needed an upgrade from my last one and I'm satisfied with the results! Good battery life, touch screen and even night vision! The only downsides I've seen with my camera is that it loses focus every now and then, but it has a manual focus dial if you want to reset it manually. Some may also feel the touch screen is small, but it definitely does the job!
Summary: The camcorder served a great purpose! I still have not used the mini HDMI cable to view the recordings that I have made! But the recordings definitely captured important events in our lives. Transaction with dealer was awesome! Amazingly quick responses! Also, the price on the camcorder went up before I attempted to purchase the item, but communication with the dealer allowed for a reduction to the original selling price online.
Cons: No mic input - you have to purchase their special mic that is power by the active interface shoe No headphone jack - even if you purchase their mic, you can't hear what it sounds like! Not compatible with Final Cut Pro
Sony HDR-CX12 is the best Sony camcorder among the recent models

Summary: I have tried many camcorders before choosing this one. The main advantage of HDR-CX12 is large 35mm Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar® lens, that provides higher that average camcorders video performance. After this model Sony switched to smaller non Carl Zeiss lens, and that's were all problems started: everything looks dark even at bright light;"blue-dots" artifacts( due to small size and week performance of own Sony lens).
Summary: Excellent camcorder. Small, light and the picture quality is better than I had hoped for. On my 50" tv, the pq is every bit as good as my bluray player. This model is a couple of years old, but I got it less than half the price of what it cost new. I didn't want to spend $1000, spent less than $500 and it looks like new. I am very happy with it.
Summary: Love the palm sized dimensions, lens is in my opinion one of the best on the market. Great nightshot and fast zoom. Manual dial for setting focus, or WB or other function is really handy and adds some pro functions to this consumer model. Being an all memory card camera, great battery life as there's no moving parts, it's great for sports with no fear of data corruption as memory cards have come down in price.
Summary: I'm sure you read the reviews so I don't have to tell you the camera is good. What you don't know is that you need is a memory card reader(if not built in PC) so you don't have to use up the camera battery when you plug it into your computer. Connecting to your PC with your camera consumes quite a bit of power/charge. You can get memory card reader for about $13 at walmart.
Summary: This camera is a bit pricier compared to other Sony models, but has it's advantages. The larger sensor does very well in low lighting situations. It has nightshot, plus the accessory shoe at the top for external lighting, etc. You can take photos while simultaneously recording HD video which is nice. It has 5.1 surround sound microphone and a nice zoom.
