Summary: My husband loves the camera. It works great. My husband had a camera just like this one for many years. His camera wasn't working just right, so we went on e-bay and found several, and got the bid on this camera. He has been very happy with the camera. I don't believe there is anything that he does't like about the camera. My husband bought another camera, but likes the Sony DCR-TRV-740 much better as he is more acquainted with that camera.
Sony Handycam DCR TRV740 - The best Digital 8 Camcorder
6 July 2006
Summary: If you are a Video 8 user (8 mm, Hi 8 or Digital 8), having this camcorder it's a must. Sony discontinued the investment and development in Video 8 camcorders about 2 years ago and the models you find in the market today are not as good as this one (not even many of the Mini DV ones have its resolution). The TRV 740 and TRV 840 were the last Digital 8 camcorders with 1/4.7" CCD and 1 Megapixel capability (680k effective for video).
Summary: The Sony TRV-740 is an upgrade to our old analog Sharp 8mm camcorder. The difference in picture quality is amazing between analog and digial 8. There is no noticeable buzzing noise on the recordings as other reviewers have claimed. Originally, one of the features that sold me on this camera was the 1 megapixel digital camera feature, which records still images on a Sony Memory Stick. Don't buy this camera with that feature in mind. Quality of still pictures is just OK.
