Fantastic entry level Digital camcorder

Bawjawz, Ciao
24 April 2004
  • Excerpt: "...find anyone that supplied the Sony only DVC format. Probably easier and cheaper online somewhere. Unfortunately no tape was supplied and It was a Sunday so I had to go to Jessops for the tapes i got which were about £20 for 4, 60mins each on short play. Dont use long play much just from the thought that the quality is not as good on long play. Instead I use Adobe PC software for editing video clips, takes a bit of messing around with codecs to get ...
  • Pros: It's a Sony and I've got one !  !
  • Cons: The supplied battery is crap

Trv16

  • Summary: I am very impressed with the system, although wish i had spent a little more for a system with the DV in option, as despite the two reviews I am unable to find an option to enable this feature. The camera is very easy to use, has quite a lot of features, special effects etc, that I doubt I will ever use but they are there so maybe one day I will find a use.

Bad bad Bad

  • Summary: I have had this camera now for 6 months and it has been in the repair shop twice already. It keeps snapping my tapes and jamming. Plus the battery live is really poor. Only about 45 minutes. I am VERY VERY disappointed with this camera and will think twice about buying SONY again.

Good things come in small packages!

  • Summary: I thoroughly researched a lot of cameras within my budget and this camera came out on top. I must note that I am in Australia and my camera was bought here. Except for a couple of features it is basically the same model as the UK one. I bought the TRV 16-E which is almost the same as the TRV 18-E except it doesn't have the memory stick option. It's a feature I can live without, and I don't want to spend a lot more just for that one feature.

Crossing the line

"downer1", Amazon

  • Summary: Well i am a student wanting a cheap digital camcorder to help with my coursework (in media studies) and to improve my hobby in filming skaters. This is a great camera when moving into the digital realm. I had been using an 8mm camcorder for about a year when i decided to invest in a digital camcorder, what a difference i found. Not just were the cassettes a lot smaller and easier to manage but everything was better quality.

An exceptional piece of engineering..

  • Summary: This camera does it all. In spite of my best efforts I have yet to have a disappointment and the camera appears to be fool proof. If you buy this camera then two suggestions - try to stretch to a light for it ( one of the Sony magic shoe lights at about £40.00 - uses the same battery power) will do nicely and increase your range plus try and get a larger battery with 6 or 7 hours to run the lot - I paid £80 for mine which hurt but it becomes a different machine with it.

Stunning picture, quality,,light and easy to use.

  • Summary: Having used a Sony TRV320 for a number of years I wanted something similar but smaller & lighter, This slips into the bottom half of the Trekker bag I bought for the 320, with room to spare for battery and 5 mini Dv tapes ! -also goes into a rucksack too and doesn't shout to the world that you've got a camera' ! Stunning picture quality, easier control and even more user friendly than the 320.

A perfect compromise between price and functionality

"mekon_uk", Amazon

  • Summary: I am a BBC News cameraman, and I was looking for a palmcorder for personal use which would give me a professional 'feel' in a very small package. After trying several makes and models I settled on the SONY DCR-TRV16 and I have to say that I was simply stunned by it's performance. Picture-wise there are three things I liked most.

Great camera (pity UK consumer)

"marcuskarcus", Amazon
6 July 2002
  • Summary: I bought one a month ago. Mine with a letter 'E' after the number 16 (DCR-TRV16E). It has DV-in and S-Video/composite in as well. ++ points: Good picture. Good audio. Good auto focus. Work flawlesly with my NLE program. And everything else you would expect from a camcorder of this range. -- points: Bottom loading. Manual control of white balance. Bottom loading. Colour viewfinder. And again, bottom loading. The digital zoom is a joke.
