Doesn't Record in HD but Still a Sufficient Camcorder
23 May 2014
Summary: Got a blue version from a friend of mine who moved up to a full HD camcorder. My wife was wanting something to use to record videos with that would replace the old DV cassette Handycam she had.. I added a 16gb SanDisc card to it along with another battery so she can record a lot of video on it. Fairly simple to use and changing the settings in the Menu.
Summary: I bought this used as a Warehouse Deal and was surprised to see it had never been used before, so it came in like new condition except without any instructions or original packaging. Compared with the HD video you can capture with other cameras, this is not comparable; this shoots in Standard Definition at 720 x 480 pixels, which is "good enough" for personal use and maybe for projects that you are wanting to look pre-High-Definition.
Summary: Whoever wrote that this was Mac compatible in the Q and A was telling a fib. I plugged it into my Mac last summer and had to reinstall the drivers afterwards. The video type is also not Mac compatible. Otherwise, great camera. Love the features. Agree with the reviewer who said he can't see the LCD screen outside. There is too much glare outside but that is probably a problem with many cameras and I am not about to spring for one with a retina display.
Great camera for the money but it's been discontinued.

Summary: Great camera but only had it for a week. I then sold it to my friend. No problem with the SX40. I just upgraded to a HDR-PJ30. SX40 is a very good camera for the money but not too good for high quality still shots.
Summary: I bought this exact camera at Walmart for $250 about 2 years ago. Physically, the camera is great, it is small, comfortable to hold and looks and feels nice. The battery is excellent, holding a long charge even when not in use for long periods of time. The zoom in is great, but only when you can keep it steady as it zooms in far. Tripod helps when zoomed in that far.
Summary: I love my Sony, we bought it when our first baby was born and we have recorded great memories on it. The only think that gave me some trouble is the editing in a Mac, but with an application I was able to do it. I tough I was not going to use it as much because we bought an Ipad, but since it is a very light and easy to carry video camera we still using it, and we love it. Pros: Size, Weight, and quality of recording.
really good product doesnt have a light needs a memory stick not an sd card

Summary: so the camcorder doesnt have a light. which my last camcorder had. it saves about 1hr worth of recording on the internal hard drive. down side is that it is a memory stick that is needed for external, not an sd card... so those are the really 2 issues i have with the camcorder. the touch screen is awesome. the photo quality is okay. the battery life is about an hr max as well. for the cost i got it for though it was awesome!
