Summary: I've had Sony video cameras before, and I'm truly disappointed with this model. The picture and video quality are very poor and I am returning this for a refund today. Please don't waste your money!!
Summary: I own four SONY digital cameras (3) taped based (1) internal drive and have been satified with the picture quality when working with the SONY Vegas Video editing system. The other day I purchase the SONY DCR-SR68 from Dell and got the day I needed to tape a talent show at our local middle school. With batteries charged I taped the show and briefly reviewed the scenes (on the camera) was very happy with the sharpness and clarity.
Summary: I bought this DCR-SR68 camcorder on 5/1/2010 (I did not buy it from Amazon). I have recorded and played back a total of no more than 10 hours with this machine since I purchased it. Today, 5/7/2011, I used it again to record my daughter's mmusic recital. The machine was recording for 2 - 3 minutes, then the screen blacked out. The message on the screen was something about buffering, then "Trying to Recover Data", then finally "HDD Format Error".
Summary: My husband bought this as a gift to replace my Sony MiniDV Handycam DCR HC26. I just didn't want to deal with the tapes. I would give that Camcorder five stars. I thought this one would be better. Everything that you read negative about this handycam is true. I've used it since Christmas and the two functions that I really wanted were the worst. The zoom is 60X, the more you zoom the more unstable evrything becomes, even with a steady hand.
Summary: Pros: small size, large hard drive Cons: everything else I was able to pick one of these up @ Best Buy as an open box for half price. My main ojective was to replace my MiniDV and get a hard drive camcorder to eliminate the tapes(got boxes of them now). The picture quality in the best setting looks worse than my MiniDV & Digital 8 on their respective LP settings. Video was shakey just walking with the camera & it had problems focusing while walking with it.
