Summary: Using the product is very easy and comfortable, with all the directions mentioned in the user manual. I would suggest all users to carefully read the user manual from start to end, so that you are aware of all features embedded in the camcorder. Sometimes, recording in the night-plus mode does not look good, especially when you are recording Christmas decorations in peoples' courtyards.
Summary: This camera is okay, easy to use, pretty good picture quality, etc. Videophiles can be pretty harsh and often expect the moon for a penny. My biggest issue is that it does not work with Apple. I let my son do his own research on this and he swore that it would. We have both learned a good lesson on this one! Quicktime Pro made it sound like it will import the files, so I upgraded. It cost me $20. Then I discovered that you need a plug-in for playback. Another $20.
Pros: Nice fiatures, I like touch screen, it is light weight and easy to handle. Overall I agree with the reviewers.
Cons: Pic is grainy when you see it on TV even HD vs SP recording doesn't make much of a difference. Sometimes it has difficulty focusing. i.e. had a dog that ran closer to the camera then the kids I was filming and it went blurr.
Summary: The day after I bought this camera (open box for $329.99) I shot some footage of my friend's wedding. Whenever I or anyone around me would cheer loud, the audio would cut down really low for about 30 seconds, then slowly fade back up. I sent it to sony repair instead of returning it, and they didn't do anything. After a 2nd time looking at it with "all their best technicians" they figured out that it was a "feature" that is consistent with all the sr45s.
Summary: I really wanted to like this camcorder. I've had Sony products in the past and the quality has always impressed me ever since I got my first Sony Walkman. Once I received this camcorder, I was able to get going without even reading the manual - so intuitive! Just the quickstart guide sufficed and I was on my merry way recording the burps and stares of my newborn daughter. Then I got an HDD Format Error.
As good as any of the other Camcorders in this price range.

Summary: The last time I bought a camcorder was in 1994, when my first Daughter was born. It was an 8mm Panasonic. Since then I have bought Point and Shoots and SRL Digitals that really impressed me. I was so used to the quality of my Canon Rebel, that I just assumed that a new cam corder would get me the same quality or close to it! I put down my $408.00 (got a deal) on a new Sony DCR-SR45. I like the Carl Ziess lenses and thought this has got to give me good quality!
Summary: This is a pretty good video camera for the price if you want a small, light camera with pretty good image quality and great zoom capacity and no hassle Hard drive recording.
Pros: the 40x optical zoom is very handy and the camera is very easy to use. The touch screen LCD was new for me having not had a camera with this before , but I find it quite user friendly and saves space on the camera body which means the camera is very small and fits in your palm almost. The continuous recordnig ability on the hard drive was great.
Cons: the low light resolution on the video image is pretty grainy and Sony could really do with working on this. But if you aren't really a low light image quality snob, which I'm not, it's fine for home videos of the kids and so on and for holiday videos. The battery life is OK and about average, but you need to buy some backups for continuous recording or get a long life battery which aren't cheap. There is some camera shake at maximum zoom so you'd definitely need a tri...
