The DCR-SR45 is a good camera…if you don't have extremely high standards. The picture quality is shoddy at best, incapable of moving quickly without dragging behind and blurring. The sound is terribly poor, and you can hear the camera crackling and the optical zoom as you narrow in on a shot.
I am slightly biased though, as I was looking for a camera with which I could make short films. I was very let down, but if you are a parent just looking for a camera with which to capture family moments, this may be what you're looking for. Panasonic is also very good. If you do get this one, I recommend also purchasing a tripod (I own a cheap Dynex one and it works fine) and another battery, as this one only has about 108 minutes tops. The extra one that you can purchase has about 500.See less

I have had the Sony Dcr sr45. My problem, it will mysteriously start getting very fuzzy, like it is trying to focus, after it has already focused. Any ideals?

I am actually trying to film medical procedure in which the operation room lights get turned off for half the procedure. Can I film in one continuous shot, will some setting allow an auto adjustment even if it takes 10-15 seconds to adjust
Answered by nilufer 2009-04-20:
Yes, this camcorder can handle drastic light transition. You can try to film it and see how it comes about.
