It has specially designed CMOS image sensor that delivers bright, vivid and spectacularly detailed 2.3-megapixel video footage plus also USB connectivity.
The Sony DCR-SR220 comes with a 2.3-megapixels camcorder Sensor resolution, effective video resolution of 1.49-megapixels, effective still resolution of 1.99-megapixels, interpolated still resolution of 4-megapixels and it is equipped with Face Detection technology. It also comes with a 15 x optical zoom and 180 x digital zoom lens that provides sharp focus and smooth zooming plus the Carl Zeiss optical lens for rapid auto focus. The device is equipped with a built-in lens shield, focal length between 3.1mm (minimum) to 46.5mm (maximum), Lens Aperture of F/1.8-2.6 and filter size of 30mm, plus design with manual or automatic focus adjustment and a motorized drive for zoom adjustment. It also has ClearVid CMOS optical sensor type, special effects such as Sepia, Pastel, Monotone and Old Movie. Besides that, it comes with 8 Lux minimum illumination, optical (steady shot) image stabilizer, Digital scene transition, Shooting Programs such as Snow, Beach, Candle, Sunrise, Fireworks, Landscape, Spotlight, sports modes, Portrait mode, Twilight mode and Twilight portrait. It also has white balance setting such as custom, presets and automatic, white balance presets like indoor and outdoor plus a widescreen video capture. It also supports JPEG file format (still image), NTSC and MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 for movie format with a 720-by-480-pixels movie mode resolution. It comes with a recording speed such as SP, LP, HQ plus an optical image stabilizer. The DCR-SR220 is equipped with a 2.7-inch LCD colour display with TFT active matrix. The device provides shutter speeds of up to 1/3 second while maximum shutter speed of 1/250 second. It comes with selectable image-quality levels, including high-quality variable-bit-rate recording, while both video and still images are recorded on disc (instead of on a cassette and a memory card). The DCR-SR220 has a camcorder remote control, external power adapter, DC power output, a combined USB / AV port, Control-L (LANC) connector type and also supports Flash card, plus an internal memory from its built-in hard disk drive of approximately 60GB. Additional features include Low Lux / Night Mode, Digital still camera function, Touch-screen control, Dynamic Range Optimizer, progressive shutter system, Dolby Digital 5.1 channel recording, Sony Picture Motion Browser and built-in type microphone. The device is powered by the Sony NP-FH60 Lithium-ion rechargeable battery (Included). Sony DCR-SR220 4MP 60GB Hard Drive Handycam 5 This was my 2nd camcorder. The last one was purchased about 6 yrs ago and was a Hi-8 Sony. This camera has fantastic resolution on my 36" Sony Wega Tube TV. The Hard Drive is great to see different videos very quickly (instead of waiting for tapes to rewind.) It is not so clear on my father in-law's 58" Plasma though. High Def would be better. But for recording my family's Birthdays and swim meets its GREAT! A big thumbs up... Read more
Large capacity, easy to use and to transfer images and video to computer and cd's. When my miniDV tape camcorder finally died, I knew that I would be getting a hard drive based camcorder, but I didn't know it would be so hard to pick the right one out, so I did a lot of research and finally chose the Sony Handycam DCR SR220. My biggest concern with this model was that I didn't think the 15x optical zoom would be enough. One slight con for me is the performance of the "zoom mic" feature. It does in fact amplify sound from whatever you're zoomed in on, but when you zoom back out, it cuts the entire volume down. I experienced this in shooting a jazz band concert. Read more
