Summary: I've had the DCR-HC62 for a few months. I took it to the Grand Canyon, so yes, it was subjected to some dust. But about 1/4 of the takes have a horizontal banding, indicating a problem with the tape drive. My older Sony camera (I think a PC-100; it was made in 2000) took much rougher treatment with no problems, and, frankly, still has better picture quality.
Summary: This camcorder makes me sick! I got it in october and used it for a few weeks and it worked well. But three weeks after ive been using it it started to get these gray bars across the screen so I contacted sony(there tech support is a joke they should be ashamed!)and sony said to reset it so I reset it and it didn't work so I contacted sony again and they said that it was a faulty camera. So I sent it back and I got a new one.You won't believe this!
Summary: I have had an awful experience with this camcorder worse yet with Sony Custome Service. I shot multiple tapes of irreplacable content and discovered that the transport was defective and that the mic pics up a constant rumble. Sony customer service was completely unresponsive and refused to replace the camera but insisted a service call of indeterminate length was what was in order. They had me appeal to their "Executive Review Board".
