Summary: I purchased this to be able to play the movies I made of my kids growing up and my last one quit, there is not anyother way to play these tapes so I needed the camera. My only problem with the product right now is trying to get my computer to recognize the camera so I can make another type of storage of the movies. I have always liked the quality of the sony camcorders and I don't have any other type to compare it to because I have only ever owned sony.
Summary: I purchased this camera in 2008 to take on vacation. It takes me forever to decide on electronics to buy because I am very picky. This camera has lived up to all of my expectations and more. I was not in the market for a professional camera. I wanted a good to better quality camera to film trips, sporting events, and everyday life. This camera does it all. It takes amazingly crisp video as well as still images.
Summary: I like the IR on this. I only gave 3 stars for Picture Quality only for cpature to Computer. There is a loss of color. I bought new high end firewire and it's a tad better. I use several Video Editors with the same loss of color in all. Oh the Macro is awesome. You can get real close and its clear at about 1-1/2 inches...better than my other cams.
Summary: I've had the DCR-HC62 for a few months. I took it to the Grand Canyon, so yes, it was subjected to some dust. But about 1/4 of the takes have a horizontal banding, indicating a problem with the tape drive. My older Sony camera (I think a PC-100; it was made in 2000) took much rougher treatment with no problems, and, frankly, still has better picture quality.
Summary: This camera has great features but I mostly purchased it for work with time lapse. I posted a video of one of my time lapse videos and have this camera always filming more. The camera works so well I ended up getting two. One for personal film work and the other for time lapse. Night vision is pretty good and with added infrared lights you can get some nice night shots.
