Summary: While it has a better zoom max range, this camera isn't 1/3rd the DCR-HC48. It lacks macrotele, it lacks timelapse, it lacks still photo capacity (!), the menu screen is much less friendly than the HC48. It does provide the same high quality video image, but why did Sony even bother?
Summary: The cam is average, unable to take still pictures, when showing on larger tv, pictures seem distorted, mic is good, however I only bought it to transfer my minidvs to cds, as my previous cam was broken, I already bought the new sony cam hcs 330, it is basic but it's awesome
Summary: I previously had a Sony DVC camcorder, but the screen did not work. Store did not sell any video camcorder that uses DVC tape...was going to some swap shops to try to find one, but went to Amazon.com, and lo & behold...they had two of them...THANKS!
Summary: I had a DCR-HC52 that went kapoot. They are no longer available from Sony. I thought that all my tapes (and I have many) were no longer usable. When I discovered that I could order one through Amazon I was delighted.
