Summary: There are several problems with this Sony model. CONS 1. The Sony website IS NOT place to find any answers ! 2. When I first purchased the camera the manual has two other models in it too. This is very confusing. The salesman and I both missed the fact that the feature(s)which I was looking for ,at that time ,was for the higher model. 3. There is no listing for error codes. See point #1. Just google the error code. 4.
Brilliant high quality model + multiple components!! The best of its kind!!

Summary: This is the second time that I own this very particular Sony Handycam model, and I have to say it is, yet again, an excellent and very satisfying experience, as always, using the amazing Sony Handycam DCR-HC46 Camcorder. There are multiple features that are available with this camcorder, which you don't get in other handycam models and brands, including the magnificent multi-channel input docking station, that also acts as a battery charger, and a whopping magnificent...
Summary: I bought this camera about 2007 to record my son's high school graduation. We only used it 10 times. It has been stored for about 3 years and I brought it out to record my son's college graduation. The camera would continually tell me to "reinsert cassette". I would eject the tape and reinsert it. It still would not recognize the cassette. Upon one of my attempts it decided to freeze half way in and half way out. I could not get the tape back out.
Summary: We bought this camcorder about five years ago and used it sometimes, mostly indoors. Always handled it with extreme care. Fairly good image (but not sound) if you are not a professional. The most frustrating is to have the cassette chamber refusing to close. Sony repair service would ask me at least US$211.00 for repair. I'm very frustrated in having spent so much money in a device that, I supposed, would bring me no problems during many years.
Summary: My son is 5 and we are using it to teach him about movies. He is interested in being a stuntman and wants to know how it all works with the cameras. That is why we have purchased the Handycam, great product and simple to use and manipulate.
Summary: I presently own a sony handcam dcr-hc46 and there comes a point in time if you are a serious photographer, a backup of your equipment is vital where necessary.Iam a retired professional photographer but more often than not the simple consumer friendly camera when applied professionaly can achieve remarkable results.
Summary: I bought this camcorder three years ago and used it every once in a while. It is now broken for some reason--wasn't mishandled or anything--and will cost over $200 to fix. The cassette won't close. Going to put it in the garbage instead!
