When it comes to the Sony DCR-HC46 there are both pros and cons; just like any MiniDV camcorder. But with that being said, the DCR-HC46 definitely has more good than bad to offer the consumer. Although it does have some stiff competition, like most Sony offerings the DCR-HC46 does not have any problem holding its own.

The first thing that you will notice about the DCR-HC46 is that it looks the same as the other Sony MiniDV camcorders. But while this unit may look the same as the DCR-HC26 and the DCR-HC36, it is most definitely the best of them all. The main difference between the three models is the type of CCD sensor that is used, and since this is the top of the line model the DCR-HC46 obviously uses the best of the best.

We found that there is really not that much of a difference between the three models as far as image quality is concerned. The only reason that you may want to step up to the DCR-HC46 is if you are interested in better quality video performance. A minor price increase will give you this quality, as well as more features than the other two units.

Just like the other two options, the DCR-HC46 is small, compact, and lightweight. This will make it easy to carry around, or fit into a backpack or purse. When you begin to explore the DCR-HC46 you may notice that the screen is slightly bigger than the DCR-HC36 as it is 2.7 inches.

The video aspect of the DCR-HC46 was above average, but not what you would expect from a Sony. It displays sharper images than the other two offerings by Sony, but with that in mind the color is not quite as good as it could be.

In conclusion, the Sony DCR-HC46 has a lot to offer any buyer. Just make sure before you purchase that spending the extra money over the DCR-HC36 is worth it.
