did not come with the power cord needed to operate it without batteries.

bob, Amazon
2 July 2013
  • Summary: This did not come with the power cord needed to operate it without batteries. Luckily this was a replacement, and I had the old power cord, which was included when I bought the original back in 2002. A separate shipment came with two batteries and a wall charger, but i still was wondering where my power cord is.

THEY DON'T TELL YOU HOW TO GET THE USB STREAM

Mona Montgomer "Mona Montgomery", Amazon
1 January 2006
  • Summary: They give you this manual (actually two manuals). The first manual refers to you to the other manual. Then the other manual tells you in three places that the method for achieving USB stream (web cam and conferencing) is different depending on the model. That's all they tell you! Honest. The manual says "SET USB STREAM IN THE MENU SETTINGS OF YOUR CAMCORDER TO ON. The procedure of the menu settings varies depending on the model." Well, what's that supposed to mean?

Sony DCR-HC40 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

lansdwne, epinions.com
4 May 2004
  • Summary: Good camcorder, but not the perfect solution it appeared to be; I expected better from Sony.
  • Pros: compact! Great analog video. Easy to use. Good low-light solutions. Clean audio.
  • Cons: Unexpectedly poor stills. Broke twice. Learning more about digital video than I really wanted.

Test before you buy

Andy P, Amazon
14 July 2004
  • Summary: I didn't test this camcorder before I bought it. I wish I had. I thought it would be up to the usual high standards of Sony. For the most part the camcorder is good, however the performance is spoiled by the motor noise. It sounds like a little shaver. Some people can live with this, but for me I can do without it. So my advice is, go down to your local store and try it before you buy it cheaper from Amazon.
