For what is supposed to be a bottom of the line camcorder, the Sony DCR-HC26 sure has a lot to offer. At approximately $299, this model offers many features and benefits that make this price tag worth thinking about. Of course, the DCR-HC26 is not perfect, but in terms of competition in this price range this model does a good job of giving the consumer more than they should expect.

As mentioned above, the number one benefit of the DCR-HC26 is the low price. Anytime that you can get a camcorder built by Sony for this price you should think about it. The Sony name is synonymous with quality, and things are no different when it comes to the DCR-HC26.

To go along with the low price tag, this model is also extremely lightweight and compact. This makes it easy to tote around in a small bag or purse, and for this reason it has become quite popular among travelers.

On the downside of things, the DCR-HC26 does not do the user any favor as far as video quality is concerned. Even in perfect lighting conditions this model seems to struggle quite a bit. Images appear to be extremely grainy, and when the light dims this problem becomes even more noticeable. When you add this to a short batter life you may begin to look at the competition as a point of comparison.

The low video quality offered by the Sony DCR-HC26 is somewhat of a disappointment. Although you cannot expect top of the line quality out of a low priced camcorder such as the DCR-HC26, Sony should have been able to make this model perform better. But even with that being said, consumers who are looking for a durable, compact camcorder with plenty of features may want to consider the Sony DCR-HC26.
