Summary: I am not very familiar with the use of camcorders. This one I purchased a couple of weeks ago and I am taking it for a spin. This I can tell you. The thing is amazing. The picture quality is better than most TV shows that I watch on my flat screen.
Summary: I love this camera from Sony. The recording quality of Video is just super and with 3 mega pixel of still images, I practically didn't need to buy a digital camera! This is the all-in-one solution that I have been looking for. I payed $565 for it and it's worth every penny.
Summary: Unlike in the past and in contrast to some other reviews here, Newegg took far too long to ship out the product, and UPS took 5 days to deliver for a 3-day shipping charge. I think the blame should be split equally. UPS also took 5 days to deliver my tripod order which arrived broken.
Pros: The camera is light, highly intuitive, and well set up for use. To echo the sentiment of others, it took me only a few minutes to set it up and start using it, without need for reading the user's manual.
Cons: Only records ca. 30 min on a Mini-DVD, which is a major draw back, but one hopes that longer-recording Mini-DVD's would come available in time. Didn't like the editing software, it affords few choices.
Summary: I bought my first camcorder (a Sharp) in 1986, back in the days of the old shoulder-mounted units that were as big as a small car, and have owned about a half-dozen since then. I'm also a big-time photo buff (at one time I subsidized my income as a photographer).
Summary: I spent months reading reviews to find a camcorder that would work well to record my daughter's dance recitals. This camcorder worked very well in low light and zoomed in clearly and quickly. I have recorded over 20 hours to this date, most in low light, but some in bright light.
Summary: Look for the "free backpack" mail in offer before buying a case for this camera :) I bought a case before I realized a free one was available :P
Pros: This is a great camcorder! It even records decent quality video (still better than Hi8 recorders) in LP mode - giving the miniDVDs ~1hr worth of video. I've used Verbatim 4x 1.4GB miniDVD-Rs and they record fine. You can switch from video mode to digital camera mode and back again very quickly an...
Cons: My only complaint is that you cannot embed date and/or time stamps into the actual video.
