Comparison Sony DCR-DVD92 Both the DVD105 and last year’s DCR-DVD92 share a similar imager as well as similar manual control options and disc compatibilities. Their images in low and bright light are very similar; any subtle differences can be attributed to the testing environment. Most of the other specs are the same. Both camcorders fail to record still images to media other than DVD discs and both only have A/V output ports. The DVD105 is sleeker and slimmer. Read more

The DCR-DVD105 is Sony’s entry-level DVD camcorder, with an initial MSRP of $500. Like other Sony camcorders, it is very simple to use. Ease of use is the area in which Sony consistently excels, making this model a sure-pleaser for novice or budget-minded users. It’s not the best camcorder in its price range. It is neither flashy nor do you get many options. Read more

    • -In Auto mode, performs well., -Good handling if you are comfortable with the touchscreen., -Decent video quality with no fuss.
    • -Touchscreen will get greasy., -The few manual controls are hard to find and adjust., -This is a VERY basic camcorder.

Nice camcorder easy to use and makes great videos. This is the typical family based camcorder. It's not for professionals it's made for people who don't have a time and special needs for professional editing. The video quality is excellent and the footage can be edited directly in the camcorder. Nice camcorder for money I would recommend to people who have kids because they can make an enjoy their DVD's instantaneously. Read more

I purchased my Sony DVD Handycam after researching the product on the internet. I have used it several times and find that it is an excellent camera. All of the functions are easily accessed on the LCD frame. They are easy to access. The picture quality is excellent and the DVD's are easily downloaded to the computer, and can be edited with accompanying software. The DVD's are also easily stored. Read more

I had a similar problem to 2 other reviewers on this site. My Sony DVD camcorder worked for just over a year. I paid about $500 for it. It was never abused or misused in any way. Suddenly I got a number of error messages about the disc door being open when it wasn’t and lost videos of my son’s birthday, Christmas, etc. In contacting Sony they essentially told me to take it to a repair shop. Found this camcorder very easy to use the controls were very user friendly. Single record stop button and zoom in and out toggle switch. You have the option to use the viewer or the pull out LCD screen whilst recording. The LCD screen can be flip around 180 degrees to allow playback and editing of the stored clips. Video quality is not bad for the 800k pixel sensor, it does struggle in poor light though. The camera snap feature is poor resolution. Read more

Just like every camcorder by Sony, the DCR-DVD105 has a lot to offer consumers of every experience level. No matter if you are a beginner or have been filming for years, with the DCR-DVD105 you will have almost everything you need right at your fingertips. This model does have a few drawbacks that you should be aware of, but all in all they are nothing compared to the benefits that you will be able to take advantage of.

The DCR-DVD105 is Sony’s entry level DVD camcorder. At a price of only $500 it is easy to see why this has become one of the most popular camcorders on the market. For a relatively low price you can get everything you need to shoot high quality videos in DVD format. This is more than you can say for some models that are more than twice as expensive as the DCR-DVD105.

The DCR-DVD105 is a top notch performer when it comes to ease of use. This is no surprise being that this is how Sony has made a name for itself over the years. The DCR-DVD105 is easy to use while shooting, and just as easy to figure out when you first get your hands on the unit. This makes it a perfect choice for the novice who is looking for a DVD camcorder that it not too hard to operate.

One of the only complaints of the DCR-DVD105 is its low light performance. While it is not as bad as most of the competition, it could most definitely be better. In low light images seem to lose their sharpness, but they do maintain most of their color. This is a problem that can be bothersome in some situations, but not one that should discourage you from making a purchase.

When it comes down to it, the Sony DCR-DVD105 is the best entry level DVD camcorder.
