Summary: bought because we have Hi8 tapes that we need to transfer to DVD, the picture quality is good, we would stay with the Hi8 tapes, but the last camcorder died and these camcorders are now longer manufactured.
Summary: I wanted to replace my old 8mm camcorder, so that I could view old family videos. This camera has been easy to use and shoots quality video. The camera is light weight and has a long battery life. I also have a Sony TRV 460 8mm that has extra features like "Memory Stick" for photos and the "Remote control". The TRV 138 records at a slower pace allowing my cassets to last and extra 10 to 15 minutes.
Sturdy and hardy camera....love it....easy to use!!

Summary: I had this video camera previously and used it HARD for 10 years while actively videoing my children and all of their activities. I was not gentle with it and I finally broke the mechanism for the cassette door.(my fault...not camera) I found another on ebay( was hesitant to buy pre-owned electronics) and am extremely pleased.....would buy this again!! Love it!!!
Summary: I bought this camera used to replace another Sony model that broke. I've tried it out and the picture is rough and has a line through the top of the screen, probably because was heavily used. I would recommend going to the new digital cameras that can record to a hard drive or flash drive and also ones that are HDMI ready.
