This little camera makes a big hit!

Donal B. Botkin "View[ + ]Finder", Amazon
27 January 2011
  • Summary: This review is about the camera. {It is not a complaint about a vendor or problems paying or missing items or the consequences of taking a brand new camera on a mountain before trying it out or some of the other "1-star" reviewers mentioned.} I own the camera and used it to record a variety show put on by a club I belong to.

Worth every penny

E. Kavet, Amazon
14 December 2007
  • Summary: I did quite a bit of research on the Sanyo Xacti and other waterproof digital video cameras. The choice was between the Sanyo, Olympus or the Pentax Optio. I chose the Sanyo for its style, design and ease of operation. I took the camera to Miami Beach and had a blast with it. I was not let down. I had no problem hanging on to the Xacti even when knocked over by a wave. The quality of the video is suberb. The still images are razor sharp.

sanyo VPCHD1 High Definition Camera

  • Summary: This works very well given its size. As a still camera it works well bright light but it is no Canon in dimmer conditions. teh Videos are reasonably good in HD mode but if you are expecting hdtv quality it comes up a hair short. All in all it is a great deal I am happy I have it .

Better than expected!

Kenneth Hong, Amazon
14 October 2007
  • Summary: After having used DV tape for the past four years (Canon Elura), I wasn't expecting much with this Xacti HD1A but I was pleasantly surprised that many of the negative negative reviews posted here at Amazon weren't as bad as I thought. The fact is, your expectations have to be realistic -- DV tapes are (as David Pogue says) best for quality. But let me be honest -- quality is only one factor when choosing a camcorder for me.

Great little HD camera

F J Sautillo, Amazon
6 September 2007
  • Summary: I received this as a gift after researching several different options and after using it for a week or so I have to report that I love it. It's just the right size for my ham sized mitts, but small enough for my pocket. It's movie quality is great for what it is. I have always taken a lot of .AVI movies with my Canon p&s cameras so portability was a must. The HD has me sold and singing the Xacti's praises.

Well Pleased

Jerome, Amazon
10 July 2007
  • Summary: I ordered this camera on Monday and received it on Wed of the same week. I bought it from Ritz Camera for $399.00 and although it wasn't mentioned in the add I also got a free tripod, carrying case and cleaning kit. The camera is fantastic. I have a Sony DV camcorder and the Sanyo is a huge improvement in video quality. I bought it because of the size thinking this would be a good little camera for trips but I would use my sony around the house.

Nice camera

William H. Sweeting "Bill", Amazon
15 February 2007
  • Summary: have had this cam since last April 2006 I did put some microphone foam over the microphones which eliminated any wind noise and didnt change the exsiiting quailty stereo recording. Wind Noise filter wasnt enough to cut out all wind noise. Camera is amazing considering its size best part is that it can be slipped in my front pants pocket and goes unnoticed and is there when you need it!

The best camera in the world is useless if you don't have it with you...

Steven W. Rose, Amazon
31 December 2006
  • Summary: The HD1 is a wonderful, amazing camera. And it is small enough that you can always have it with you -- I've carried mine for months in my front pants pocket in its protective case, and been able to capture family and work stills and video that would otherwise have been lost. Even if the quality were not up to par, I would have something instead of nothing. But the quality is great! I'll expand on the quality below.

Not for capturing your first feature film, but great for filming the kids!

R. Woods, Amazon
27 December 2006
  • Summary: I read lots of reviews for this camera before I bought one, and now that I have one I'm thrilled. It's true that the low light issues are there, but I find that I don't use a camera if it's a pain to carry around. This little thing fits in my pocket, takes great stills and above average video. I've filmed the kids more in the last two weeks than I have in a couple of years. Don't listen to the videophiles who pan the image quality.

Exceptionally good value

John Lambert, Amazon
21 December 2006
  • Summary: Before I bought an Xacti HD1A, I bought a Mustek DV-12M because it was only about $150. The Mustek is very low quality, and I didn't have it a week before it began malfuctioning. What a joy to get Sanyo's Xacti after that... the Xacti is very high quality in every aspect. The only problem is that the description I read didn't cover all the wonderful features!
