Summary: I really like this little camera - it's lightweight and fairly intuitive to use. For capturing video it's great. However, the battery isn't brilliant so you need to recharge it as often as you can (1 day of regular use seems to be about average for me) and unless you're taking photos of landscapes that function is essentially useless. It takes too long from hitting the button to actually taking the shot, which is a shame.
Summary: The Sanyo VPC-GH1EX-B boasts 1080i widescreen video capture and a 14Mp Camera. When we watched the video reviews on Youtube (even though youtube reduces video to 720i), we were very impressed, we'd been using an awful panasonic tape video cam to record our little one's first few months and we wanted to upgrade to something that ran with SD in HD! What you get? A tiny little camera which does feel a little 'delicate' and plasticy, but that performs pretty well.
Excerpt: I have had my Sanyo Xacti VPC-Gh1 for 6 months now and basically you get what you pay for. The quality of the video is higher than the packaged item however you will need tiny fingers to do editing on the camera and a bundle of patience. Dont get excited about editing on a PC because the format wont let you unless you change the files with a converter which is a time wasting exercise. If you are happy to view raw HD video then this is a good camera for the price.
Summary: This HD video and still shot camera is small and light and works well with great image quality in video and still shots. We use a 2x Sandisk 8GB 20MB/s Extreme Video HD SDHC Card (Class 6) for data card storage and it does not drop any frames. Very happy with this Sanyo HD camera. THIS IS AN UPDATE UPDATE, soon after writing this review this camera gave up, it just died for no apparent reason. Returned it to Amazon for a refund. I never did buy a replacement.
Summary: I bought this to take on a skiing holiday and used it before hand, to find that the audible warning 'Low Battery Power' (or 'baddery' as she's American) sounded after only about 6-7 minutes filming. We had bought 2 extra batteries but how was this going to last a day or even a morning worth of filming? Also unless you're using a tripod, the camera is incredibly uncomfortable and unnatural to hold.
Summary: Video Picture quality was not as good my standard definition DV Camcorder I was looking to replace. 14MP still shots were not as good as my 8MP camera. I got a lot of blurring in still and video when the subject made a movement. Top side zoom and other controls were difficult and did not have s smooth feel. Otherwise I liked the small size and easy to use menus. Good websupport manual. Very disappointed about the results considering the high specification of the camera.
Summary: I cannot review this item as it never turned up in time for my holiday! I aid for next day delivery and it took about 10 days to turn up. I ended up buying a camera from Dixons at Heathrow airport on my way to my holiday.
Faultless HD quality in outdoor light...not good indoor.

Summary: The camera is VERY small compared to some of the other camcorders out there. But this could be a good thing. However, it does feel a tad light and plasticky. Video quality is superb in outdoor light but very poor indoor lit. I would say it is a great camera for people wanting a small, lightweight option for videoing their outdoor holidays but not so good for anything else.
Summary: The camcorder has been updated to reduce the weight. Sadly the feel of it is not comfortable in the hands. The main controls have been moved to the side, where they are most difficult to use. Photographically it cannot be faulted. The biggest problems occurred when I downloaded the films to my PC. Playback was incomplete with only the odd frame being displayed. My PC said that to view the films CODEC was needed to view them.
Summary: If what you're looking for is a high-quality digital camcorder which is nevertheless nicely pocket-portable, then this would be a great item for you. I would, however, caution potential buyers that the 'dual function' of the item is a little overrated. Whilst it works perfectly well as a digital camera, the item is set up as a camcorder and is therefore a little ungainly in its supposed second function as a camera.
