It's actually waterproof!
D. Hackett, Amazon

Summary: I purchased this camera for a trip to SE Asia, and was definitely hesitant about many of its features. Let me just say that the video quality is very high, the sound quality is good, the image stabilization works well, and it is indeed waterproof. I took the camera into salt water, submerging only a foot or two, and it works well a year later. Now, this isn't a true diving camera...but for simple fun in a wet environment or even snorkeling this camera works well.
Summary: Owned this camera for over 2 years now and during that time it's been face-to-face with leopard seals, humpback whales, cave critters, mountain tops, and generally anyplace else where you wouldn't want to take a regular digital camera. During that time it's performed flawlessly with nary a hiccup. Admittedly, its low-light performance isn't the best, but given enough light, this camera can take some truly nice pictures and video with great colors.
Summary: I purchased my Xacti CA 9 about 2 yrs ago (not from Amazon). It worked great for "land" pictures and we never worried about it in the rain. A few weeks ago we went on a vacation that included beach and ocean time. We went snorkeling and of course took the camera which was supposed to be waterproof to 5 ft. It never got more than about 6-12 inches below the surface. After about 20 minutes it just stopped working - the screen went black and all buttons were unresponsive.
Summary: This camera is fantastic! Great quality in every way. i read a lot of reviews about them messing up and it had me skeptical but after getting it and testing it i figured it was more than likely user error. If you get this camera and want to keep it properly operating some maintenance is required along with the obvious do nots.
OK for underwater use but get a newer waterproof camera instead

Summary: The pictures from this camcorder are actually not bad but I had hoped for better video quality after reading some reviews. I guess it was OK compared to other waterproof camcorders but my newer waterproof camera takes better video. The only advantage this has is the rotating screen to track your subject. Of course for above water video I would use a real camcorder instead.
Summary: This is a great electronic to have! It's very convenient having a dual camcorder and camera that is waterproof. The camcorder takes excellent quality HD video and photos! Perfect for everyday use, vacations, trips to the beach, or rainy days. It's very easy to switch between the camcorder and camera. You can snap a picture very quickly with the push of a dedicated camera button. The camcorder itself is very well built and has a high quality feel.
Summary: I bought this for our Fiji vacation. We were so excited to use this while snorkeling, and with the first time recording underwater it actually worked, we could see what we were recording on the screen and then an hour later went back out to do some more snorkeling and the screen went black and stayed black the entire two week vacation. We were beyond disappointed with this!
Summary: Water leaked the first timed I used it. But the real problem was Sanyo support. You cannot send them emails. You can only "post" to their web site (and you'll be ignored). 2 hrs to get them on the phone and had to ship camera at my expense. response was water damage not covered by warranty. THIS ON A WATERPROOF CAMERA !!! I wrote to complain. No response. So buy at your own risk. If it fails you, you are on your own.
Summary: Bought new and took very good care of this camera.....pictures not clear in low light ....no ability to handle action shots, has to be kept perfectly still .... resolution not great for still pictures.... buttons too small/ close together...the user manual is difficult to interpret ...zoom capacity is unimpressive.....microphone/sound only fair ..but the worst part is, after two years of moderate use, the audio, then the visual stopped working...
