    The Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1 would seem to fulfill the dreams of many a tech-head: high definition (HD) video at an affordable price. Yes, it does meet the technical requirements of HD, recording at 1280 x 720 at 30 frames per second (fps), also known as 720p.     The HD is also capable of taking decent-quality photos under good lighting conditions. Unfortunately, the video quality lets it all down. Unless there's plenty of light, camera-grain throws the MPEG4 encoding process into a digital fizz - regardless of whether you're using the 6Mbps or 9Mbps mode. Such artefacting masks the enhanced detail that is the whole point of HD. And that's with a fairly static shot; pans are so noisy and juddery that they're nearly useless. Read more

Believe it or not, the Sanyo Xacti HD1 is a capable performer that you may want to consider if you are in the market for a camcorder. Although the Xacti HD1 does not have the name recognition of some bigger name brands, it has a lot to offer in more than one area. As far as HD camcorders are concerned the Xacti HD1 has a lot to offer. Not only does it look good, but it also has many high tech gadgets that will surely keep you occupied for hours on end.

Believe it or not, the Sanyo Xacti HD1 is a capable performer that you may want to consider if you are in the market for a camcorder. Although the Xacti HD1 does not have the name recognition of some bigger name brands, it has a lot to offer in more than one area. As far as HD camcorders are concerned the Xacti HD1 has a lot to offer. Not only does it look good, but it also has many high tech gadgets that will surely keep you occupied for hours on end.

While the Xacti HD1 does have many good points, it is hard for most to get over the image quality that it produces. The fact of the matter is that poor image quality in this model may be reason enough to keep advanced videographers away. When you combine this with the fact that there are many other options to choose from in this class, it is easy to see why the Xacti HD1 has fallen behind.

The way that you look at the Xacti HD1 will go a long way in deciding if it is right for you. If you are a positive thinker you may feel that this five megapixel camcorder has everything that you could possibly need. Some of its more important features are a 10x zoom lens, a small compact design, and a 2.2 inch 55mm screen.

The problems start when you actually start filming. You will notice that it takes forever to focus in on your target, and then you end up with images that have too much contrast and not enough sharpness.

It is safe to say that the Sanyo Xacti HD1 is not the right choice for every buyer. But with that in mind, the technical aspects of this model make it worthy of at least a look before buying the competition.
