Samsung SC-HMX10 Review

LAPTOP Magazine
1 April 2008
  • Excerpt: Samsung's HD camcorder is light (5.0 ounces) and unassuming. Shaped more or less like a soda can, the HMX10 creates 720p video (1280 x 720) compressed to the H.264/MPEG-4 codec and stored either on the internal 8GB of flash memory or to SDHC/MMC+ cards. With a minimal control layout, it's auser-friendly camcorder, but it won't be so appealing to serious shooters. The video output has enough flaws that the cam is strictly for weekend warriors.

Samsung SC-HMX10

25 February 2008
  • Summary: Despite an attractive price and some decent features, the frustrations of the Samsung SC-HMX10 outnumber its rewards.
  • Pros: Relatively sharp video; manual exposure controls; can focus fairly closely.
  • Cons: Sluggish autofocus; exposure problems; mediocre low-light quality and performance; no hardware image stabilization; annoying touch screen; potential software problems.

Samsung VP-HMX10 review

23 May 2008
  • Excerpt: The VP-HMX10 is the cheapest HD camcorder in the group. It looks almost identical to the standard-definition VP-MX10 and has the same body shape and clever twisting handle, but comes with a built-in lens cover, plus a touch-screen LCD for navigating the menus. The VP-HMX10 has a 1/4.5in CMOS sensor. On the highest quality setting it records video at a resolution of 1,280x720 pixels at 12Mbit/s.
