Summary: Bought this camera from Amazon on a special offer. the camera worked well being compact and easy to use.I was disappointed with the quality of the stills, the video was ok for the money. if your looking for a good video and not to worried about the quality of the stills the camera should be ok for you. I sent it back and payed a lot more for a better spec camera. the adage "you get what you pay for" couldnt be more true.
Summary: Bought this camera based on friends' recommendation as being simple in use and cheap. Tried it for one day - it distorted the picture (lengthened it), was not great on the move (did not make objects sharp quickly enough - don't know how the feature is called) and the mic was not good outdoors, captured more wind and other surrounding noise than the person speaking in front of the camera (it was not that windy). Returned it to Amazon. Looking for another make.
Excerpt: I bought this camera recently, replacing an Aiptek AHD100, and was thrilled with it. It is an easy to use, and a good quality camera. The controls are very easy to use, although there is no touchscreen. It does take still photos, but they are not very good quality, as it only takes 5 megapixel photos. Although this camera isn't HD, it is Standard defiiniton but still very good quality footage. This camcorder takes SD memory cards and supports up to 16gb SD/SDHC cards.
Summary: I bought this camcorder because my mini dv camera didn't give good enough quality pictures. The quality of this one is much much better and it is easy to use. The format of the recorded images gave me a problem however.I have been used to capturing my video onto windows moviemaker to create my films.
Summary: Don't buy this if you intend editing your footage on a Mac. If you shoot in 16:9 (which most will want to do) the files will get squashed to 4:3 when transferred to your Mac. There is no way to get iMovie, Final Cut or any other Mac video editing programme to recognise them as widescreen files - something to do with not having the proper tags. From what I understand there is no simple (or even complicated) way around this.
Summary: If you can get this camera at a good price then its quite a good bargain. Okay so its not the greatest video quality - but actually its as good as fairly decent miniDV camcorders of a few years ago (I have a good canon about 5 years old). It runs for ages on a charged battery and there are loads of clever little features. The down sides are that the auto focus isn't very fast and the zoom control is much too fast.
