Summary: I've been using the Samsung R10 to shoot my short movies for a over a year now. It's done me very well and has great resolution, a sort-of decent battery life, and quite user-friendly. But there is one thing, that drives me crazy: The upward-angled lens. Why? Who on Earth thought of this? Many of the promotional videos I watched before purchasing claimed that this was done for 'ease of use'. Ease of use? Are you kidding me?
Summary: Had this product for a few years, but have just used it as a regular point and shoot. I love the HD quality, but it has to be in great lighting or the quality is grainy. I would also like to figure out how to use the high speed feature without having such a grainy, low quality.
Excerpt: Samsung did it again, with it’s new HMX-R10 aka Alien Eye (in my terminology). The HMX-R10 records is full HD and as a result the video quality is truly amazing. This is most likely one of the better ’small’ camcorders you can buy.
Excerpt: The tilted lens of the HMX-R10 Camcorder by Samsung has made a world of difference for me in the length of time I can now get in, when shooting acts. Seemingly tilted by about 20 to 25 degrees upwards, my wrists don’t get tired all that quickly anymore, as opposed …
Summary: This camera does not work very well for indoors, despite adding all kinds of lighting most of the video background remains black or without any real definition. The tilt lens will also require some getting use to.
Conclusion: I wish to differ with the reviewer's recommended hold of the Sammy R10. It's not easier to hold cradled like a flashlight, unless you take up-skirt shots! The design is ergonomic, not just to be "quirky". Holding the recorder like a standard design, you don't need to cock your wrist back. You don't hold the lens 25 deg lower than subject; the lens stays straight. Just hold the camera in your palm, with zoom control covered by the thumb.
Summary: Camera works just as advertised. Would have been great with a firewire port, but just fine for my needs. only thing is that your will get silver when you order. just like a few other review say, ordering in black is futile. Silver is what your'e getting regardless of selection. Thus the low rating.
Four and a half stars, just a minor improvement...

Summary: the hand strap is a pain and I have smaller hands, but the manipulating of the buttons is cumbersome with just the hanging strap. I'm not sure what the logic was on this. Beyond that, the camera works great! Very intuitive, simple and easy to use overall. Image quality is great! Like most cameras, it gets a little grainy in lower lighting, but still pretty okay. The still pics work just as good as any camera, it's like buying two for one, good value.
Summary: The R10 is very good product and a great value for money. I purchased it here as an open box item for a steal.. (even better) however it is not the best. I would give it about 3.5 out of 5. Picture quality is great in daylight, decent for indoor during the day; or using flood lights, Image quality is poor at best using fluorescent or incandescent lights, and don't even try to shoot outdoor with low light using this camera.
