When it comes to Panasonic’s top of the class DVD camcorder, the VDR-D300 holds down this spot. The new VDR-D300 only costs $999 which makes it one of the low priced options in the entire industry. When you combine this low price with a high level of features it is easy to see why so many people are excited about what it has to offer. Although many feel that the VDR-D300 cannot compete head to head with Sony, the fact of the matter is that this unit can hold its own in a number of different areas.

For more accurate colors, the Panasonic VDR-D300 features three 1/6” CCDs. Where as the competition only offer one chip, Panasonic feels that by offering three the quality of color will be better. And we must agree. In bright light situations the VDR-D300 offered great color, as well as super sharp images. In fact, they were so good that they almost looked like they were shot from a high end MiniDV.

While the bright light performance was excellent, in low light things were not exactly the same. You will notice that in low light conditions sharpness goes away, and the amount of noise is also on the rise. While this can be bothersome, it is not a reason to stay away from the VDR-D300.

When it comes to handling the Panasonic VDR-D300, anybody would be impressed. A joystick makes it easy to choose your options, and navigation is a cinch thanks to easy to understand prompts.

While nobody expected the Panasonic VDR-D300 to perform as well as it did, this unit definitely has its place in the industry. With a low price, a lot of features, and high quality pictures the VDR-D300 is sure to find its way into the hands of many consumers over the next year.
