Excerpt: The last Panasonic camcorder that we had reviewed was compact and small enough to be slipped into your backpack without consuming too much space. Moreover it even came with an 80 GB hard drive that could record 72 hours of video at its highest mode. Now, the SDR-S26 is quite similar in looks but comes in a much smaller form factor. Had it been any smaller the SDR-S26 would have actually fit into your pocket.

Summary: The Panasonic SDR-S26-K digital video camcorder is a solid performer in the standard-definition space. It offers an impressive array of features for the asking price, the highlight of which is its ultra-powerful 70x optical zoom.
Pros: 70x optical zoom, attractive lightweight design, novice-friendly iA mode
Cons: Poor night mode, 'Web Mode' is a poorly implemented gimmick
Summary: Over the years Camcorder s have got both smaller and lighter. The optical zoom has increased and in almost all cases they have got easier to use. However now with huge zooms have they become just impossible to hold still at or near maximum zoom?
Summary: As Verne Troyer would have you believe, good things come in small packages. And camcorders don’t come much more compact than Panasonic’s latest addition to its SD card-munching standard definition crew, the SDR-S26. The lack of hi-def may disappoint some, but this lightweight cam has plenty of tricks up its short sleeves. There’s a neat and tidy menu controlled by a four-way joystick and a Quick Start mode that means you can shout ‘action’ after 0.8 seconds.
