Summary: I wasn't expecting a Hollywood production quality picture when I bought this camera and I sure didn't get it. It's pretty cheap, small, light, has a big HDD for long video capture and has great zooming capabilities. On the flip side, I can't get a low light video to turn out better than a 7-11 security tape for the life of me. When recording school concerts I've had hit and miss results 100% depending on how much lighting was present.
Summary: The only complaint I have about this camera,is the software that came with it. It IS NOT compatible with my Windows 7 system and NO ONE has been able to help me with finding an updated or useable version. the software that came with this camera, corrupted my OS,crashed my computer, and cost me $400. to repair. And I STILL don't have updated or compatible software. How about it, Panasonic?
Good camcorder but beware of joystick. Get one with a touchscreen.

Summary: This took great video! It had great sound! It's nice and compact. I would love it except it doesn't have touch screen. It has an itty bitty round knob about the size of 1/2 a pencil eraser top, with arrows up/down/left/right. You have to use a nail because a finger is too big. You have to go slow and be sure to hit it just right or it will go to a feature that you didn't want. It is VERY sensitive. For that reason only (and believe me, you would too), I sent it back.
Summary: Nice little package! The 5 V charger got mislaid someplace I have not looked up yet. So that is all I can do now - look at it. The instruction booklet is trying to be user-friendly for sure. By the time I'm done getting educated, I forgot the beginning... Naturally Panasonic asserts no other but the very original Panasonic parts are allowed under penalty of insubordination, and any other source part might make the cam self-destruct in rightscious emollition.
Summary: This Camcorder is a great price, has great small size (almost shockingly), and is easy to use per se. The hard drive option is great and gives 18 hrs of video if you go that long without off-loading the video. The main features (turning it on, recording/playback, and zooming)are nice and easy to use. The software and off-loading video are also very simple.
Summary: I bought this camcorder because I have never been a big fan of Sony camcorders, and this Panasonic SDR-H85K was top rated in consumer reports. I didn't need HD at least not yet, because I don't have an HDTV, and I didn't want to be able to see the pores on my face. HD is good for sports games, but i just needed something that took good video, and wanted a good Optical Image Stabilization(OIS). This thing is light, attractively styled and has amazing 78X zoom!
Summary: Great to use. Very light and simple controls. Massive storage capability on SD cards. BUT - I previously had a Mini DV (tape) camera and the video quality was far superior to this, particularly if you edit and copy onto a DVD.
