Preview Peak of Panasonic SR-HD40 Improved Zoom Stabilization

Personal Electronics buzz
11 August 2009
  • Excerpt: I had the opportunity to preview this new Panasonic SR-HD40 while on a recent business trip. I am impressed with the improved stabilization on the 42x zoom. Panasonic calls it the new Optical Image Stabilization, (OIS) technology. The company says it improves its previous models by eight fold. All I can say is it works well in minor to medium shaking situations. This is a great improvement.

  • Summary: With its 30GB hard drive, SD card slot and 42x optical zoom, the SDR-H40 is a versatile little performer. If you're on the lookout for an affordable standard-def camera for casual use, it is definitely one of the better buys on the market.
  • Pros: Solid video performance for specs and asking price, 30GB hard drive, 42x optical zoom, records to both SD card and HDD
  • Cons: Image quality takes a significant hit under dim lighting

Panasonic SDR-H40

CNET
20 March 2008
