Summary: I tried various normal camcorders as well as the upright versions and I opted to buy an upright type. I had originally looked at the Sanyo range and then realised they had been bought out by Panasonic who brought out their own range.(Almost identical to Sanyo range) I then narrowed it down to two models, the HX-DC10 and the waterproof version the HX-WA10. I finally opted for the WA10 because it offered the ability to be used underwater.
Summary: Swift delivery, arriving the next day after order placed. Having used the camera for a few weeks, I am very happy with my purchase. Overall quality of both video and stills is very acceptable. I basically wanted a dual camera for holidays, one that was preferably waterproof too. This Panasonic ticked all the boxes and hasn't disappointed. If I had to be picky I would say the only let down is the poor 5x optical zoom and also there is no ability to zoom in slowly as you...
Summary: Early impressions of the Camcorder are excellent. Although it's actually water proof I just wanted it to be rain proof. It's easy to use but I find the buttons to record and take stills not ideal being above your thumb. As the Camcorder is pistol shaped I'd have thought trigger operation would have been easier (for the user). The PC software is rather complex. However the picture quality (both movies & stills) are superb.
Summary: I was looking for a decent stills camera for my hols, saw this on one of those TV gadget shows and thought it would be ideal. Initially, I didn't realize it was predominantly a video camera, but my main want was something that worked well underwater as I wanted to take photo's while snorkelling. Verdict? Quality of stills are excellent; Video is really good too. However, it isn't exactly simple to use - not difficult, but not easy.
Summary: I have used this camera whilst wet canyoning. It has handled extremes of temperatures and jumping from as high as 18 meters into water (handled the jump better than I did). It has been just fine, doing what was asked of it. I smeared a tiny quantity of non-setting silicon (purchased from a dive shop) onto the seals for added security.
Summary: Delivered on time this camera is easy to use with excellent features. I have only two reservations/niggles, one is that zoom speed is not adjustable and the other is the button for stills is awkward to operate.
Summary: This is a great little camera which has a lot of functions and produces good quality video and images for the money. The only downside are the menu controls which can be a bit fiddly but this is a by product of the fact that they have been designed to be waterproof. The controls for taking pictures and video are easy to use which is more important in my opinion.
Summary: BE AWARE THAT THIS CAMCORDER ONLY RECORDS IN THE US FORMAT NTSC! This results in a degradation of video quality when watching the footage on our PAL-formatted TVs here in the UK. Panasonic and Amazon don't say that in their specifications and technical details here on the product site. If you want to order this camcorder, contact Amazon to ask for the PAL version.
