"Absolutely amazing"

OldNickToo, CNET
19 June 2013
  • Pros: Wonderful image quality and the 50P (Australia) is just swimmingly smooth. The Image Stabilisation has to be seen to be believed.I have used the camera, hand held, to track dogs at play and this camera makes it a dream.
  • Cons: in manual mode, changing the shutter speed alters the "aperture" which adds noise. You then have to go back to aperture and it will at least leave the shutter alone.

Absolutely amazing

  • Summary: 4 stars for the aperture thing. FGor general shooting this thing can't be beat. Still shots are not up to DSLR standard, but still very good. For video this thing puts out stuff that looks like it cost 2-3 times as much.

Best camcorder for the money!

Dr. Gary Erkfritz, Amazon
26 August 2011
  • Summary: This is by far the best camcorder I've owned! The videos are amazing. I generally use a Rode mic with it, but the camcorder mics are fine with very little noise. My only complaint is having to find an adapter to attach the Rode mic. The design of the shoe makes it impossible to fit any I wanted to use. I had to pay $50 for an adapter from a company in England <sigh>. This is a design issue that I hope Panasonic will address in the future. Overall, I'm very pleased.

Not perfect but all in all quite pleased!!!

A. P. Smith, Amazon
23 May 2011
  • Summary: I've owned this camcorder (purchased from Amazon Warehouse) for about a month now and I'm really impressed. Panasonic has done a great job with this camcorder (and its twin the HDC-TM700). Note: at the time of this writing (Spring 2011) this is now the previous-generation camcorder -- reportedly the newer HDC-TM900/HS900K camcorders are pretty much identical as far as video quality is concerned and offer mostly minor updates; notably a larger higher-resolution LCD and...

Good deal made worse

Bentley Atchley "Mister A", Amazon
1 February 2011
  • Summary: I thought I was getting a bargain when I purchased this camera until I looked at Amazon's web site the next day and saw the price went down almost $90. It's a good camera though. The thing that really disturbs me is the camera case they offered with the camera will barely hold the camera. There is no room for the accessories.

"Camcorder has what counts, however nothing is perfect."

Vaiovann, CNET
2 June 2010
  • Pros: Large native capture resolution Light weight, even when shooting for extended periods Fair amount of manual settings, even for a more "Consumer" oriented model Quick response to light and capture changes
  • Cons: Small frame (totally relative statement) Included cooling fan is picked up on hot shoe mounted "shotgun" mic (is not when peripheral isn't attached) Settings (capture modes and manual adjusts) are buried in touch screen menus

  • Summary: In answer to Tropi, it comes with HD-Writer software to transfer stuff to PC via USB cable (supplied), but no editor. Adobe Premiere Elements (about 80 quid) is recommended and can handle all formats; Cyberlink Power Director (cheaper) can handle most, but not the top-whack 1080p. This is a serious camera and needs a serious PC to work with it. Mine has an i5 CPU and 6GB RAM, but you could probably get away with less if you don't mind waiting longer for the results.
  • Pros: Just about everything, especially the image stabiliser
  • Cons: Availability of filters etc (only a 46mm thread)
